Flappers were young women of the 1920s (when the majority of the movie took place) who went against traditional values. They took advantage of the new independence available to all women and wanted to have fun. Flappers loved to party and dance the Charleston. They were known to wear short haircuts (bobs), short skirts, and a lot of make-up.
