Indian Creek Elementary School, with a student population of 850, is located in Douglas, a small town in southeast Georgia. Here at Indian Creek, we strive to project a comfortable learning atmosphere for all of our students. The faculty and staff, influenced by a need to respond to declining socio-economic conditions among the student body and significant overcrowding, have accepted a mission to provide a safe and active learning environment that fosters happy, productive, lifelong learners prepared to compete in a global society. In our family of learners, the teacher assumes the role of head learner. Each of our teachers serve as instructional leaders rather than disseminators of information. Students learn through the implementation of thematic instructional units and actively participate in learning activities. Satilla Elementary has risen to the challenges of student diversity and overcrowding by implementing a team approach to teaching and learning. Our staff embraces school change as necessary to ensure that the needs of all students are met. This collaborative effort validates the efforts of students, staff, parents and the community as Indian Creek strives for total school excellence.
