For much of June 8 all of June 10 and into late June 11 the men where confined to their tent

11th June.
We have just returned from the last slope of Kamet. During our forced confinement we
came to the conclusion that a higher camp would not be possible. Everything was against
it. Our weakened physical state made it very doubtful if we could continue with the load
carried. Even if we could manage this our scanty food supply would not be sufficient to
last out the time required to establish a higher camp and follow this up with a summit
attack. The only alternative we had left was to climb unloaded and reach as far as possible
from our present position and return the same day. This we have done.
