It's no longer an argument this well-worn and well-known fact: James Dean is a pervasive cultural influence. Be it the rebelious, misunderstood teenager who finds solice in Jim Stark's loneliness and desire to be loved and understood, or the flame-like haircut, or the bongo-playing bohemian, James Dean has risen above the '50's actor-stereotype and has become an icon of not just of a generation, but of a culture. Listed here is a list of links, some James Dean specific, some not, embody both his history and his influence in the world we know as the World Wide Web.

• Yahoo's! James Dean Page is a listing of pages currently registered with Yahoo!

• Fairmount, Indiana: created by the James Dean Foundation, this site includes a brief biographical history of Dean, memorabilia, a link to the Fairmount Historical museum as well as Fairmount-related links.

• James Dean and Garfield: The main page of this site informs you that Fairmount has another famous son, "Garfield" creator Jim Davis, but this page links you to a "virtual tour" of Dean's life in Fairmount ("A walk in Dean's Shoes") with some nice pics, memorabilia for sale, and other pages which I've not had the opportunity to look at.

• The Official James Dean Website has a wonderful selection of pics and information on Dean.

• My James Dean Page is pretty sparce at the moment, but it is a page concerning Dean, so I've included it here. Perhaps in the future it will contain more information ...

• Rebel Icon has some nice pics and a home-cooked bio of Dean.

• James Dean Search Hits is an interesting little site listing, well, the title makes it obvious, no? :)

• The Tonys: James Dean never won a Tony Award (then called the Perry Award), but he did appear on Broadway and received rave reviews for his performance of Bachir in Gide's "The Immoralist."

• The Oscars: Dean was nominated posthumously for his work in both East of Eden and Giant. He won neither nomination.

• Grease!: The original Broadway production was very disimilar from the current Tommy Tune interpretation. James Dean's "Michaelangelo" picture was the back drop.Warning: At time of publication, this was not an active link

• The Fifties Web: This site is dedicated to the Fifties: from music to television.

• Elvis in the Fifties: Elvis was a huge fan of both Dean and Brando, but the press focused on Presley's fascination with Dean -- one article even compared photos of Dean and Presley -- and Presley modeled his acting based on Dean's in Rebel Without A Cause.

• The Fifties Boutique from the History Channel sells Fifties memorabilia, including a James Dean tie. This link is not a commercial endorsement.

• The Fifties is a supplimentary page to the recent documentary The History Channel did on the Fifties. Topics include McCarthyism, American Ideals, Race Relations, and Pop Culture.
