If They Only Knew
Later on, around midnight, the throngs of kids started dissipating to other parties and clubs and Liverpool. One such group sat atop a deserted bus heading for the more residential part of Liverpool.

"So," said Paul with a smug grin on his face, "Told you he was good Lennon"

John, who was passed a few seats behind Paul, simply groaned something to the extent of ‘Piss off’.

"Is he always like that?" asked George, looking over the seat at John.

"What drunk?" asked Paul "Or a bastard?"

"Eh… a bastard?"

"Oh then yeah he is" the older boy laughed "But he can’t help it, and he’s not all that bad really."

George shot a look at the three boys who were the current drummer and guitarists of the six-piece band. They didn’t seem to agree. "Yeah…" he mumbled

"Oh them" said Paul looking over at the boys who were now talking conspicuously and shooting dirty looks at George "They’re just hacked off cause you’re so young and all. I don’t mind though, you’re only a year younger then me aren’t you"

"Mmm hmm" George murmured, he looked back over the seat at John. The musician was now hunched over vomiting all the alcohol from his system onto he floor.

The bus pulled to a stop and everyone got off (John was carried) except Paul, George, and Gabrielle, who was sleeping quietly, her head was resting on George’s leather jacket against the seat. So It was really only George and Paul who were conscious at the moment.

Paul gestured to Gabrielle with his head "So you two aren’t like" he quirked his eyebrows up and down suggestively "You know"

"What?" said George distractedly "Gab and I? Nah, just mates"

"Ah, come one, you’ve never wanted to give her a pull then?"

"No" said George, he shook his head and looked over at Gabrielle "After you’ve taken baths with someone it’s hard to want to shag them" he glanced back at Paul and saw a mechanical smile on his face.

"You take baths together?" Paul chuckled, and his eyes sparkled deviously.

George laughed "Bugger off! You know that’s not what I mean. When we were fucking little, you daft git"

Paul just giggled some more, his teenage mind working into overdrive. "Sure it was" he laughed

"Shut up" George said, looking indigent but a smile tugging at his lips none the less "Do you have a thing for younger women McCartney"

Paul calmed himself down and peered over at Gabby "I don’t know" he said shrugging "She’s pretty good loo…"

"Stop" George held up his hands and laughed "Just, I don’t want to hear any bloody more. It’s unnatural"

The bus pulled to as top and George leaned over the set and shoved at Gabrielle "Gab, wake up… we’re there come on…" He prodded at her experimentally for a minute with no avail.

"Let me try" said Paul deviously, he aimed his hand meticulously but before he could touch anything Gabrielle sat up, yawning and rubbing her eyes.

"Wha… are we there yet Mummy?" she mumbled

George and Paul looked at each other and giggled but stopped when she glared up at them.

"Oh Christ, get away from me you stupid sods" she groaned as she sat up and draped George’s jacket around her shoulders.

"She does love us George, doesn’t she?" said Paul, pretending to sound hurt and looking at George with big wounded puppy eyes.

"Course she does," he said, extending his hand to help her up.

Once they got down on the street below Gabrielle pulled George’s jacket on and shuddered.

"Hey that’s mine" said George, tugging at the sleeve impatiently.

Gabrielle whined "But I’m cold Georgie, I’m freezing me bollocks off"

"Oh come off it, it’s the middle of August" said Paul, grinning "You know you just want that lovely George smell all over you, don’t you"

They laughed and Gabrielle sniffed the collar of the jacket "Ew, oh god. Smells like fags and cheap cologne"

Paul batted his eyelashes at George "I bet all the girls tell you that" he said in a falsetto voice

"No" said George "Only the rude ones with daft cow eyes"

Gabrielle crossed her arms over her chest and frowned "I do not have daft cow eyes. I just have really big freakishly green ones"

"I kind of like you’re eyes" said Paul, he bent over to look closely at her face "They look all… sleepy like... but pretty, Ow!" he exclaimed as she punche dhim on the shoulder playfully.

"Oh leave my eyes alone" Gabrielle groaned, throwing her hands to her face. They started walking down the street, talking non stop until they reached the intersection where Paul’s house was.

He opened his garden gate and the closed it looking over at Gabby and George "You wanna get together and work on some songs or something tomorrow?" he asked quietly

"Sure" George nodded "Sounds good"

"Great" whispered Paul, looking up at his house "You want to come Gabby?"

She winced "Oh thanks but I’m tone deaf. Besides I have something I need to take care of tomorrow"

"Oh you’re leaving tomorrow?" said George, furrowing his brow and stuffing his hands in his pockets. A cool summery breeze wafted around them, blowing their hair carelessly.

"Leaving, where too?" asked Paul

Gabrielle shrugged "Boarding school, in Surrey, but I’m not leaving for another week yet"

Paul leaned against his gate and clicked his tongue "Christ, that must have cost a fortune, how the hell are your parents paying for it?"

"Eh" she said waving her hand dismissivly "Someone died or something and we got some inheritance."

Paul cocked his head to the side "Then why do you still live in drab old fucking Liverpool?" he said the last bit with a wave of his hand at the space around them

"I dunno" sighed Gabrielle "I can’t get into it. But I’ll be packing all day tomorrow with Shaz… er Sharon, you know the girl who was snoging and being grouped at the Casbah"

"Yeah I remember" nodded Paul,

"Maybe we’ll drop by and help you out a bit" suggested George "Besides, don’t go getting any ideas about stealing my jacket"

"I wouldn’t do such a thing Harri" she gasped, pretending to sound appalled

"Oh sure, I know about all your filthy ways"

"What filthy ways are these?" Paul grinned. A light switched on in his house and he whirled around "Ah, shit, I told Mike to keep dad busy" he groaned "I gotta go, see you tomorrow George, bye Gabby" and with that he ran off behind the hedge and around the back of his house
