If They Only Knew
Astrid was going to give Gabrielle a short lesson in photography. They decided to drive out to the beach for the day and a bit of a change of scenery. It was gorgeous and sunny and not at all like the Reeperbahn. Everything about the place screamed to be photographed, at least that’s what Astrid said. Gorgeous things always needed to be photographed.

“We should take the lads out here, next time they have a day off” sighed Gabrielle, they were walking along the shore, talking and feeling a bit out of place in leather mini skirts against a backdrop of ocean.

Astrid nodded and pointed to a picnic blanket and basket set up in the sand. The family had vacated it and opted for splashing about in the waves. “See that?” she asked

Gabrielle nodded.

“What d’you see when you look at that, what do you think of?”

That was about all the lesson consisted of. Deep though provoking questions that made you think about how you could take a 3D object, make it two dimensional and then have some one see at as three again. The thing that Gabrielle found herself the most enthralled with was that she could take a picture of the ocean, and no matter how the shore changed over time, she would always have a version of it as it was now. It was almost like making something last forever.

“What does this button do?” Gabrielle peered up at Astrid who was snapping photos of children as they ran by.

“Er, it clears it, Ja? You know, makes it solid”

“Focus?”

“Ja!” she agreed “It is focus”

Gabrielle laughed and zoomed in on her own feet. Then she took a picture and sighed. Astrid plopped down next to her. “Are you having fun?” she asked

Gabrielle nodded enthusiastically “Oh, yes. Marvelous.”

“Are you going to… euh, you know, how do you say? Pursue it?”

“Pursue photography?” she asked and looked down at her camera. “I dunno… I’m not really doing much of anything else”

“Zat would be fun, I think” said Astrid “To take pictures of your English Rockstars. It would be art, and at the same time, a lot of fun”

Gabrielle nodded. She never actually considered anything for a career before. Never actually even thought anything through completely. But Gabrielle was a visual person and she was starting to imagine what it would be like. To be a professional photographer, in London. With all the beautiful people. Wasn’t that the world she had always imagined her self in. Maybe she *should* pursue is. Just to see what would come of it.

“Maybe” she said softly

Astrid grinned at her and pushed her hair off her face. “You are like me Gabrielle” she said wisely “You aren’t the center of attention…. But you are.”

Confusion mixed with appreciation graced Gabrielle’s face, as she understood what she was saying, but not completely.

“Allow me to explain,” she continued “Our purpose isn’t to *make* the art, and be loved. Our purpose is to be the inspiration, and to make sure no one ever forgets. Stuart is my artist, he will be a great artist one day. And very famous. My job isn’t to be his equal in that regard. It is my job to inspire what he does, and like I said, make sure, no one ever forgets.”
