2. Am I understanding correctly that you do not feed any type of lettuce or animal protein to your iguanas? Yes, that is correct, we do not feed any type of lettuce or animal protein to our iguanas. Lettuce, no matter what the variety, is nutritionally poor when you put it up against other green leafy vegetables such as collard greens, mustard greens, turnip greens, etc. When there are so many better foods to offer, feeding lettuce just doesn't make any sense. As far as animal protein, the cons of feeding outweigh the pros to such a degree that we are not willing to risk the health of our animals by giving it to them. While it is true that there may be a possibility that animal protein given in specific quantities is not harmful and may in fact be healthful, there is no current research that validates that position. Furthermore, none of the research that supports feeding animal protein can give acceptable quantities. |
