The Humans Of The Iguana Spot |
Long before there was The Iguana Spot, even before there was a Mr. and Mrs. D, the two of us had an interest in iguanas. As close as we can figure, between the two of us there is a rich 15 year history of knowledge and experience. Yes, once upon a time, we, like many of you reading this now, didn't know all the ins and outs of iguana care. Some of what we did know so long ago has now been proven wrong by recent research and study of these amazing animals. We are not veterinarians, we haven't had any formal traning, nor have we had any formal schooling when it comes to these animals. What we do have is a vast amount of common sense and experience caring for iguanas with good doses of research and reading thrown in. We have never passed the opportunity to read a book, attend a lecture or class or spend some quality time learning from our veterinarian. When we decided to put together a website so that we could share photographs and stories of our iguanas, we also decided that we would share the knowledge we have accumulated both through book learning and hands on experience. |
For many years, while we were traveling around the country, we had no iguanas. The untimely death of Mr. D's beloved Dewey while we were in the process of moving to Las Vegas and she was in the care of a family memeber devastated him. Dewey was rescued from a college frat house by Mr. D's younger brother and she had become Mr. D's and really didn't care for anyone else. Like many people, Mr D received misinformation on how to care for. Even if he had received good care info, Dewey was in such bad shape by the time he got her, she probably wouldn't have lived for very long. When she passed away, we decided not to get another iguana and take the time to travel around. |
About two years ago now, we finally decided to settle down and we purchased a house in New Hampshire. About a year after moving in and a not so little accident where I fell through the railing of the back porch six feet to the ground, we decided it was time to enrich out lives once more with an animal. An iguana was the natural choice for us. At the top of the page you will find a button bar that contains the links to pages for each of our iguanas, as well as the foster iguanas we have taken in. Each one has their own story not to mention personality. We will continue to share what we know with the Internet community, as well as continue to learn from the friends we meet out here in cyber space. One of our goals is to be a positive force in the herpetological community and to help irradicate misinformation both here on the Internet and in pet stores. This year we are planning to participate in many herpetological events in our area. It is our hope that we will not only be able to particiapte and help others but that we will also be given the opportunity to learn new things and therefor greatly enrich the lives of our iguanas. Almost all of the articles, including the care sheet contained on this website are original and have been written by myself or Mr. D. These articles would not be possible if it weren't for all the wonderful men and women who have dedicated themselves to the research of these amazing animals. On almost every page you will find the references that we used during our own research, we encourage you to go read these for yourself. Thank you for stopping by and we hope you keep coming back! We update The Iguana Spot on a weekly basis, so make sure you refresh your browser to be able to see all the new information! |
