She thinks she's ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS . . . and we Agree!! |
April 30, 2004: Our beautiful girl was diagnosed with Glaucoma in her right eye 4 weeks ago. After trying, unsuccessfully, to control the the disease medically, it was decided to surgically remove the eye. Maggie had the procedure yesterday, April 29, and is now at home recovering. |
Maggie now has her own page!! |
June 3, 2004: It's been more than a month since Maggie had her surgery and she is doing so amazingly well that I wish we had spared her the month of trying to arrest the disease medically, and just went straight to the surgery. Since Maggie was already blind in both eyes, loss of sight was not a factor. Now that the pain is gone, she is back to her bossy, naughty self! She is reasserting her alpha position in our pack, and is up to her old tricks of tormenting Charlie, our 18 yr. old African Gray Parrot, out of his food. We are THRILLED to have our girl back! At the same time she was diagnosed with Glaucoma, it was also determined that she suffered from Hypothyroidism (had evidently had this for several years). She was put on thyroid supplement and we are seeing vast improvement in her skin and coat --- and she is losing weight --- something we have battled for years with. So all in all, things are going GREYT for this little girl and it doesn't look like she'll be slowing down anytime soon! |
July 20, 2004: Happy Birthday Maggie! Eleven years old and still going strong! The many, many difficulties our girl has gone through during the past year have made us cry tears of heartbreak, frustration, and finally, of joy. What a fighter our Maggie is! Such a strong spirit in a frail and delicate body -- she has overcome every challenge put before her, and continues to thrive with an unmatched joy and enthusiasm for all life has to offer! We pray that Maggie will enjoy the future with improved health and her continued zest for living. This bossy little brat rules our hearts --- along with the household! |
