Anime |
...NO its not... |
porn, pom-poms, and skimpy clothing...at least not the kind I watch. But thats not to say it doesn't exist, because it does, but there is soooo much more to anime than meets the average American eye. Heck you might have actually watched anime before and had not even realized that it was anime. Anime can best be compared to the modern American cartoon. The difference however is that you are never too old for anime. Since the rise of Anime in Japan, its influence has been felt like a prominent shockwave that covers the whole globe, rattling our bones and sending shivers through our spines. I guess the real question is what kind of otaku are you? |

The rise of Japanese Animation...has made terms such as chibi, otaku, or even the ever so mentioned Neo-Tokyo, relatively well known names in American culture. Allow me the chance to clear up the confusion, as I sort through as many terms as possible. |
FANSUB- The term that is most commonly used for illegally copied and subtitled anime that is distributed via the internet, or through imports. It would appear as if most anime fans have at least one fansub somewhere in their collection. |
OTAKU- The biggest and baddest of anime fans. (You Live, Sleep, Eat, And Drink Anime.) |
MECHA- It sits snuggly within the anime section...mainly because everyone seems to love Mecha. Mecha is a subcategory of anime science fiction, that not-so-surprisingly covers robot fighting of any kind. (IE Neon Genesis Evangelion, Mobile Suit Gundam, Ghost In the Shell, etc...) |
CHIBI- Literally its Japanese for small. You are probably familiar with this type of anime and might not even realize it. Chibi can be found in anime such as Pokemon, Hamtaro, and even Digimon. Some serious anime shows also implement the use of a "Chibi Theater" in which the main characters are shrunk down to pint-sized versions of themselves (Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of a Heroic Knight, Adventures of the Mini Goddesses, etc...) |
MANGA- Japanese comic books. This word has been commonly mispronnounced time and again. Hell even I mispronounce it. |
HENTAI- Simply put you shouldn't watch this with your parents unless you already are a family with issues. Hentai is animated pornography of the XXX or NC-17 kind. Although nudity does occur in a number of anime titles, hentai has a particular focus upon sex, in insanely perverse ways at times too. |
AS I stated I coulkdn't possibly cover everything, but if you ever lost on an anime term I recommend that you take a look HERE... |
