Igloo Harras......good clean fun
Chances are, that right now, all you know about Igloo Harras is that he is a guy with a real goofy name! Well, once you get past that handicap (or is it?), you will discover that Igloo Harras is a comic made up of many characters, voices and moods.

Igloo is a Woodstock, Ontario based comic who is fairly new to the scene, although comedy has always been a part of his life. Igloo debuted at Yuk Yuk's in Hamilton, ON, on January 26th 2000 during amateur night. Igloo used the more "regular" stage name of "Art Thomas". His 5 minute set consisted of a comic analogy of the various types of stand up comics there are in the business. He was a little nervous, but it was a start. That first set will always be remembered for his fabulous wall crashing exit, that many thought was an accident, but was staged. Even then, Igloo knew he had to leave his mark! You never get a second first impression!

Igloo went back to the drawing board, and wrote a new 5 minute set based around his growing up with a pest sister, and parents who didn't understand him. This second set, which was performed on February 9th 2000, was a little more articulate, but again, Igloo was a little under-prepared, a mistake he hopes not to repeat too many times. (Getting the hint, Igloo?) But, as well, it was a start, even if he was a little afraid of being on the open stage. But as Igloo has said, "Fear is what holds talented people back from thier dreams". You can't be afraid to make mistakes, it's how you learn!

As a sales clerk in a music store for 10 years, Igloo has been able to display and use his rapid fire wit and humour with thousands of customers who aren't really sure what to make of him. He has been scolded by managment for being a little too harsh on people! (Igloo was 'let go' on September 16th 2002!) Igloo see's everything as a comic opportunity. Just wait till his live shows get going over 2003 and 2004!

It was in September 1999, when one of Igloo's customers at the music shop suggested that Igloo try stand up comedy. The customer thought Igloo was funny and quick with the one liners. So, in October 1999 Igloo began to write material for his debut. Igloo was quick on the draw at the store, but knew that on a stage under the lights, it would be a different story, and he'd better be prepared!

His debut on the stage was on January 26th 2000 in Hamilton, ON. Just Igloo, a mike, the hot lights in his face, and an audience he could not see, but heard. Afterwards, Igloo was pretty happy with the performance, concidering it was his first time.

After his second gig on February 9th 2000, Igloo got caught up in this this so called life, and then took a  whack at fronting a rock band. By the fall of 2001 he realized that bands were alot of work for little gain, and as a stand up comic all he really had to do was depend on himself, which he knew he could do. In the period between January 2000 and November 2001, Igloo jotted down a pile of notes for new material; he had tonnes of ideas. All of these ideas went onto the shelf when on February 13th 2002, Igloo started writing all new material. He had had a vision, and this vision had given him a clearer direction. The two year break gave him time to find his focus.

Igloo made his debut with his 'new direction' on June 19th  2002, at Good Time Charlie's in Woodstock, a re-birth in comedy, if you will. Igloo conciders this his real debut. It was with a Yuk Yuk's show hosted by Angelo Tsarouchas. You can follow the site links below and read all about this show.

Igloo's most current performance was on March 28th 2003 at the Oxford Auditorium in Woodstock, ON. Igloo opened for Greg Morton, a former Woodstock comic now based in Toronto. Igloo was on for over 45 minutes, performed in front of 800 people, and it was his most involved show ever!  For more details check it out
