Oxford Auditorium, Woodstock, ON Friday March 28th 2003 Big Sisters of Woodstock Benifit Show |

When Greg Morton, a former Woodstock resident turned professional comedian, called up Igloo and asked him to open a show, Igloo didn't know how to react! Then he quickley said yes! That was back in February, and it gave Igloo almost 2 months to write new material and work in the best of his material that dated as far back as the Hamilton Yuk Yuk's shows. Igloo had 40 minutes to fill, and he used it by trying all kinds of new ideas and concepts, and then, at 8:55 PM, Friday March 28th, the M.C., local celeb Jason Pacquette, announced that Igloo Harras was in the house! Igloo went up on stage before 800 people. Igloo opened with his new character, "Gummy", and his stick horse. From there Igloo became the "Duke" John Wayne and the "Duke" of Edinburgh, for his "Dukes" skit. From here Igloo did a little stand up about the Woodstock Slots and the orgins of Popcorn, Cancer and Gambling. After which, Igloo tryed a new trick, "Igloo's Box of Hats". Igloo had the audience throw various hats up on stage, and he became that Character for a minute or two. Then after a short break, Igloo returned with stand up material about his growing up years, drawing from material from both the Hamilton gigs in Feb 2000 and his Good Times Charlies gig last June. Then from here Igloo tryed some new material dealing with New and Improved Items, Reincarnation, and trying out for a porn flick. Igloo ended on a very strong note when he did a strip tease to Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing". 49 minutes later it was over! The reactions from the audience of 750 plus people was mixed, some got it, some didn't, and some didn't care. Many were there to see Greg, and that's okay, Igloo had a good time anyway. A talk with people afterwards gave Igloo some more insight. But it was a plus situation no matter what. Igloo didn't get booed or heckled, and he did get some laffs. He also learned more about the business. It was a great oppertunity to open for Greg. Greg has been professional since 1987, and he knows his business, he is simply excellent. Greg has lived in Los Angeles and New York City, and now lives in Toronto. Special thanks to the 7-11 girls and Mary Ellen Laursen for coming out! Also thanks to Lori Lynne Hartley for telling Igloo about Greg last summer, Jeanette Patrice for being there, and for Vicki Brown for taping the show. (The noise level of the crowd was loud, but that's Igloo's fault for not giving them a reason to be quiet! You could have heard a pin drop when Greg took to the stage at 10 PM.) Great thanks goes to Greg for the chance, Sandra Brown for the support, and Jo-Anne Orton for being behind the Big Sisters Association of Woodstock. I hope you were able to raise some cash. Igloo got his name mentioned in both the Woodstock and London papers before the show, although neither paper has covered the sold out event afterwards. Igloo has a better idea now of what works, and he is going to hone his act on his summer bar tour, check back at the site for details. There is a big demand for Igloo to be more himself, a little rougher around the edges, and venting! That's what he does best! Return to main page HERE |
