About IGNOU Distance Education

an Act of Parliament in 1985. |
IGNOU has more 7,50,000 students with extremely varied profiles, spread throughout the length and breadth of the country. IGNOU Master in Computer Applications (MCA)
The objective of the MCA programme is to create skilled man power at the level of programmer, system analyst, project manager and system manager.
The minimum duration of the course is 3 years and maximum duration is 7 years. The student has to give 3 Term-End practical exams in 1st year only. In 2nd year there is no practical term-end exam. In 3rd year also there is no practical term-end practical term-end practical exam but one has to do a final project work. The duration of each practical session is 3 hrs which includes the counselling and the hands on practice. In each year a student are supposed get 48 practical sessions. The attendance in the practical is compulsory.

Eligibility Criteria / Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Computer Science / Applications
/ Information Science / Information Technology from a recognised
/ deemed university
Non-computer Science B.Tech/M.Sc./other graduates (such applicants
are required to pursue CIC concurrently with MCA 1st semester)
Graduate with PGDCA from a recognised/deemed university or its equivalent
course of not less than one year from a State Board of Technical Education
or its equivalent body established by the Central/State Government.
Note:
(i) The students who haven't studied Maths at 10+2 level are required to do CS-60 in the first semester of MCA.
(ii) The students enrolling for the MCA Programme who have completed the DEOACC O-level programme are not required to enroll for CIC.

IGNOU MCA for Non-Computer Science Graduates
Various students from non-Computer Science-core streams (generally streams that does not have Computer Science as a paper through out the course but have Computer Science as a paper during a Semester / Year. Courses such as Arts (B.Com/B.A) with Computer Science come under this category) often ask about how to get admission for IGNOU MCA Program. IGNOU, through its Schematic Presentation of SOCIS Programmes that can be downloaded from IGNOU Website (generally given in the last few pages of the IGNOU Prospectus / MCA Program booklet) clarifies as follows:
Students with Maths at 10+2 Level and having done Bachelor in Computer Science/Applications/Information Sciences/Information Technology/PGDCA from a recognized/deemed University can take MCA Ist Semester directly.
Students with out Maths at 10+2 Level and having done Bachelor in Computer Science/Applications/Information Sciences/Information Technology/PGDCA from a recognized/deemed University should take CS60 along with MCA Ist Semester.
Students with Maths at 10+2 Level and having done other Graduation courses/B.Tech/M.Sc. in Non-Computers stream (including but not limited to Bcom with Computer Science) should take CIC along with MCA Ist Semester (Students are required to do CIC concurrently with MCA first semester and should successfully complete it before registering for the 5th semester of MCA)
Students with out Maths at 10+2 Level and having done other Graduation courses/B.Tech/M.Sc. in Non-Computers stream (including but not limited to Bcom with Computer Science) should take CIC, CS60 along with MCA Ist Semester (Students are required to do CIC concurrently with MCA first semester and should successfully complete it before registering for the 5th semester of MCA).

AICTE Recognition
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) wide its letter F No. AICTE/Academic/MOU-DEC/2005 dt. May 13, 2005 has specified that the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) are recognized by AICTE.

Fee Information
The programme fee is inclusive of examination fee and is to be paid
semester-wise , as per the details appended below:
Rs. 12,200/- per year + Rs 700/- for CS-60 for non-Maths students and Rs. 3,000/- for CIC
The programme fee is to be paid only by way of demand draft drawn in favour of IGNOU payable at the city where the concerned Regional Centre is located. Xerox copy of the DD should be retained with the student.
