HOW TO PREPARE FOR FIRST SEMESTER?

CS 02 INTRO. TO SOFTWARE

The subject is system software and about operating systems NOT UNIX. Unix is used to explain system software and o.s.. Only very small programs (factorial, Fibonacci etc) + commands are useful. So concentrate on theories explained in IGNOU BOOKS. Complete one book per week. Get book that gives you last 7 to 8 question papers and its solutions. Find which types of questions are asked in particular chapter. Mark and Prepare only questions from old question papers.

Reading material :
For TEE:

bullet

ignou books ( may enough )

For assignments and project:

             - by Milan Milenkovic  2nd edition
  2. The Design of the UNIX operating system
             - by Maurice J. Bach

CS 05 SYSTEM ANALYSIS AND DESIGN

It has 6 books. Complete one book per week. Get book that gives you last 7 to 8 question papers and its solutions. Find which types of questions are asked in particular chapter. Mark and Prepare only questions from old question papers. Just remember definitions and points. Keep your own note for points/definitions. On each Sunday, revise that questions / definitions / points. It can be seen that short notes are asked for 30 marks. Emphasize on them.

CS 04 DATASTRUCTURES

Your subject is DATASTRUCTURES, not C and PASCAL.You may even exempt to read book on PASCAL. First Two books are introductory to C language. Just scan it i.e. get novel reading of it. Have general idea of simple programs and use of struct.  (Yashvant kanetker’s LET US C is quite useful here) Give only 15 days for it. That’s all for C.

Now, Emphasis on DATASTRUCTURE. For TEE preparation, only study material may not be adequate. You are required to refer many books on data structure (not on C).  Prepare notes on algorithms / functions.

Reading material :
1.    ignou books
2.    book that gives you last 7 to 8 question papers and its solutions

3.    Expert data structures with C     by- R.B.PATEL
                                                  (is nice book )
4.    Data structures through C language by- DOEACC
                           (samiran, debabrata, matangini)
                                 bpb publications
                                 book for DOEACC

5.
fundamentals of data structures in C++
                       by- horowitz, sahni, Mehta
(NICE FOR KRUSKAL AND PRIM ALGORITHM)

6.    an introduction to data structures with applications
                          by- trembalay, Sorenson
(NICE FOR ALGORITHM AND UNIX BNF GRAMMER)

ALSO READ file organization given in CS 05 IGNOU BOOK 2 PAGE 46
CARE !!!! It is a vast subject, has no limits. If you are thinking to give only two subjects in 1st sem . It may be advisable to omit this subject or at least  start preparing this subject only after complete preparation of above two subjects.
