MY IGUANA
I got my iguana, chewie, in October, 2001. It took a lot of saving (for supplies food,lights...) and convincing. My mom is never keen on the idea of another animal in the house, but she loves them too much to say no.

When Chewie first came home his SVL (snout to vent length) was less then 5 inches and his TL (total length) was less then 20 inches. The store where I got him said he was six months old.

That day he moved in to a 10 gallon terrauim equiped with a small fake tree, a hide box, a heat lamp, a heating pad and food and water dishes. I didn't like keeping him in a small cage so I tried to make it up to him by letting him free roam in a small room every day.

Chewie grew on every one. Soon he was part of the famliy. He also grew in size. By christmas he needed a new habitat. Using my christmas money I bought chewie an Iguanarim, a medium sized open air cage. The cage came with only one built in basking shelf. So I added some things of my own. I added a hammok made from an old shirt, a "branch" made from a pice of PVC pipe, a branch I found outside (thoughly disinfected of course), and plastic plants to make the cage look nice and give chewie a palce to hide.

Chewie seemed to enjoy this cage immensly. The full spectum floresent lighting has made his bones hard and his skin a wonderful shade of green.

Chewie just hangin out. Age six months.
Chewie lkies to skateboard too!

In early 2003 I bought Chewie another new cage. This time it was a 260 gallon Reptarium. The cage measures 6'x3'x3'. Because the cage came empty my uncle and I built a wooden frame with shelves for Chewie to climb on.This cage is great because everything is spread out. Chewie has alot more room to streach out in. I will most likely get Chewie a bigger cage but not for a long time.

11-1-04: While that time came. Over the summer my uncle Chris and I built Chewie a huge mew enclouser. It is 4' deep, 8' long and 6' tall. Chewie's room is now as big as mine! This giant cage takes up almost half of my bedroom, it is so big I couldnt even take a picture of the whole thing.

If you are planing on getting an Iguana you need to do research before you buy!
I recomend buying,
Green Iguana: the Ultimate owners Manual, by James Hatfield III. If thats too long, buy Anna My Green Friend, by David Krughoff. You need to be ready befor you iguana comes home. You should have the habitat set up and check the temps. Before there is a little green lizard who is too cold.
