Feeding
Introduction
Calcium Vs. Phosphorus
Iguanas in the wild eat the leaves fruit and flowers from trees. In captivity we try to mimic thier natural diet as much as possible. The staple food of an iguanas diet shoud be leefy greens. Vegitables are the next best thing you can feed them. You can also feed a iguana fruit but only rarly because fruits are low in calcium which is very important in an iguanas diet. One of the most important factors af an iguanas diet is variety. You just can't feed a reptile the same thing everyday. Below is a list of some Iguana safe foods.
Iguanas need a calcium to phosphorus of 2:1 or twice as much caicuim as phosphorus. If they don't have this their bones can become week and they can get Metabolic bone disease. This is especially important in young iguanas. It is a good idea to add calcium 2-3 times a week to young iguanas food (only once a week for adults). You can buy calcium powder from any good pet store. When you add calcuim you only need to add a small pinch. REMEMBER, you can add too much calcium, so take it easy!

When to Feed
It is best to feed your iguana at the same time every day. I feed mine evry day when I get home at about 3:30. You should feed your iguana in the morning or early afternoon so your iguana has plenty of time to bask and digest the food before night. It is ok to give your iguana small snacks between meals as long as its not right before bed.

Iguanas always need a source of clean water to drink from. This source needs to be small enough that they cant get in it. If it is too big your Iguana may leave you a poopy gift in the water bowl. I recomend getting a heavy water dish so that your iguana can't tip it over. Also, keep the dish on the cool end of the cage so the water won't evaporate. Always remember to check the water dish every day.
