IHP at Walter Reed - Unofficial Alumni Website

About Us

Hello! Welcome to the unofficial IHP alumni homepage. IHP was a great experience for most of us, and this site is intended to help you reconnect with classmates, and meet other alumni.

For those of you unfamiliar with the program, IHP stands for Individualized Honors Program and is a unique program for highly gifted students founded by William William (Bill) Fitz-Gibbon in the early 1970s. Fitz teaches math and science, and he led the program along with Judith (Judi) Lawson Selsor. who taught English and Paul Mertens, who taught history and social studies. About fifty kids per class were given an excellent educational foundation, emphasizing critical and creative thinking. (The opposite of this, as most of you know, is 'fuzzy tinking.') Mr. Mertens and Ms. Selsor have retired, but their ideals continue with Ms. Fennel and Mr. Rawley, the new program coordinator.

If you want to bond, or have questions about IHP, we've got an IHP-Network mailing list where you can meet and talk with current and former students.
