The United Nations has recently adopted rules and recommendations for the protection of Human Rights Defenders. Accordingly, some international human rights organizations in cooperation with IHRAAM, have decided to facilitate this process of protection and international diplomatic and legal servicing of human rights defenders by permitting them to be recognized and officially registered with them as IHRAAM human rights defenders who are exclusively concerned with minority rights.
This includes the international distribution among governments and international organizations of the information of violations of minorities’ rights that they submit, through written reports, to IHRAAM. Please note that IHRAAM human rights defenders are exclusively concerned with the violations of minority rights as codified in the Declaration on the Rights of Minorities, and elaborated in the commentary on the Declaration provided by UN Special Rapporteur, Asbjorn Eide.
