IHRAAM APPEAL FOR SUPPORT FOR
A NATIONAL SURVEY OF
African American Opinion
in relation to
MINORITY RIGHTS

IHRAAM is currently in the process of conducting a national telephone survey of the African- American community to assess levels of satisfaction with African-American Leadership, and the desirablity of African Americans independently electing an African American National Assembly.

The study will  also determine potential geographic /regional variations in social attitudes, and assess the interaction of the variables of age, gender, ethnicity, education and socio-economic status as a function of subjects' attitude toward human rights issues.

Using U.S. Department of Census Data, twenty-four (24) demographically representative cities have been selected based upon their having high, mid and low range population clusters of African American citizens. Within each of these key cities, names,
residences and phone numbers of potential subjects were generated from all "zip code" areas that had a concentration of 65% or greater of African American residents. From this core national population/database, a representative sample was systematically drawn, which is now being surveyed by phone.

The 24 targeted cities are as follows: (ranging from highest to lowest overall percentage of local African-American population clusters):

Detroit, MI; Cleveland, OH; Oakland,CA; Pine Bluff, AR; Jackson, MS; Florence; SC; Chicago, IL; Fayetteville,NC; Baton Rouge,LA; Richmond,
VA; New York, NY; Tuscaloosa, AL; Atlanta, GA; Longview, TX; Pascagoula,MS; Lawton, OK: Nashville, TN; Los Angeles, CA; Atlantic
City, NJ; Louisville, KY; Fort Pierce, FL; South Bend, IN; Las Vegas, NV; and Seattle, WA.

The cities of Chicago, New York and Detroit have already been surveyed. Data is presently being obtained from the remaining communities.

This unprecedented and historic national survey under the auspices of IHRAAM is being conducted by Dr. Farid I. Muhammad, Member of the IHRAAM Directorate and Chairman of the Department of the Behavioral & Social Sciences at East-West University in Chicago, Illinois.

The survey will be conducted in collaboration with students currently enrolled in a course titled SC 335: Social Research Methods.

While the cost of personnel time required to handle all of the computer-related data generation and subsequent analysis has been covered, fourteen EWU students will be making  an average of
forty (40) LONG-DISTANCE SURVEY CALLS each in order to comply with the resarch protocol.

WE ESTIMATE THAT A TOTAL OF $900 DOLLARS WILL BE REQUIRED TO COVER THE COST OF LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE INTERVIEWS.

ALL DONATIONS for this project should be MADE PAYABLE TO IHRAAM
and sent to IHRAAM's auditor:
