What do people think?
When you look into a crowd,
What do you think.
Do you think of how they dress,
Do you think of how they walk,
Do you think of who they are,
Do you wonder if they have families at home,
Do you think of how they looked as children,
Do you wonder how old they will be when they die,
Do you imagine that you are them,
Do you think people are strange,
Do you think they are just like you,
Or don't you think?
Many people don't.
It is scary to imagine that people don't stop
To think about anyone but who they are.
Sometimes I like to stop and look around.
See the children and their parents,
Wonder if they have grandparents,
If their parents are good to them,
If they have food on the table every night,
If they live in a shack,
Or a castle,
Have they ever been beaten,
Were their parents beaten.
These are questions no one asks
It is not polite to ask.
When you see a teenager,
Do you see a child,
Or an adult.
Are they spoiled children,
At the mall to spend their parents money,
Or struggling adults,
Trying to feed their own families.
Sometimes you just need to step back and look around,
Take a moment each day,
Think.
