IMP - Evolution

Ilayangudi Melapallivasal Jamath was originally known as Eruthu Pattadai Jamath. This jamath was consisting people of Ilayangudi, whom were doing mainly transportation business with bullock cart those days. This mosque was founded by Late. Varusai Mohamed Maniyaran during AD 1744 to the western side of the very first mosque of Ilayangudi in the Thuraiyan Pacherry settlement area. Since, it was located in the western side of the old settlement area this mosque was called Melapallivasal, though it is located in the south side of the present town.

For a very long time, this mosque was under the influence of local Ambalams (godfathers). During AD 1962, when Late. T.R. Sickkender was Trustee, this mosque underwent renovation and extension with more space for worshippers. This new mosque building was inaugrated by Al Haaj. Quid-E-Millath.

During AD 1985, when H.M. Abuthahir (Koolkudichan) was Trustee, two gigantic Minarets were built in the mosque complex with the total height of 90 feet. This minarets are the tallest in the town and the photograph of which was displayed in one of the Government sponsored Exhibition.

IMP - Trustees

Ilayangudi Melapallivasal Trust was controled by local Ambalams for many years. There was two section of the people namely Periya Katchi (Big Party) and Chinna Katchi (Small Party) fighting for the possession and management of its wealthy Trust. Periya Katchi was consisiting mainly with Ambalams (godfathers) and Chinna Katchi was consisting unidentified common public. There was a court case between these two parties for the administration of Trust.
