God has cared for these trees,
saved them from drought, disease, avalanches,
and a thousand tempests and floods.
But he cannot save them from fools.
~John Muir
We're in the shadow of
one
of a trio of ancient Jeffrey Pines. These
venerable pines are 400 years old!
They represent the "old growth" on the Woodland Trail.
Because of the logging practices in the early years of the 20th
century, very few areas of "old growth" exist
anymore. How blessed we are to enjoy these tough
survivors.
There is always Music amongst the trees,
but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it.
~Minnie Aumonier
We pause to look
about. All around us is pure nature. No noise from passing cars, only the
chirping of birds and the soft rustling of leaves enhance the beauty and quietness of the surroundings.
We find peace and quiet
in the shadows of these majestic pines.
