The simple act of stopping and
looking at the beauty around us can be prayer.
~ Patricia R. Barrett, The Sacred Garden
We have been surrounded
by beauty throughout our walk. With every step, the Woodland Trail
has radiated its essence, but only for eyes that see.
The blue skies.
The sun shining. The forest mosaic.
The green of the live oaks. The refreshing coolness of the
day.
The peek-a-boo vistas of Big Bear Lake.
The lofty mountain peaks.
The fresh air.
The wags of happy
dogs' tails.
The smiles of fellow hikers.
The real reward of
Woodland Trail is not the workout (and at this altitude, it can be),
nor the scenery and views. It is the experience of a world into
itself. It is an island in the sky, a place of trees, rocks, breezes
and unending views that relax the body, mind and spirit.
Are you seeing things
like you never saw before? Is everything is somehow
clearer? Are the colors brighter? The sounds are
sharper? Are you simply more aware?
Once more, Big Bear
Valley has worked its magic on me and I know that everything is well
in the world. I am feeling
kindlier to plants, animals, people, and even rocks.
I hope you have
vicariously experienced all three of the qualities that are
essential to a wilderness experience: silence, peace, and an
appreciation for nature.
All good times must come
to an end, and now we must part company. By the looks of their
wagging tails, Freddy B and O also had a doggone good time on the
dog-friendly Woodland Trail. I hope you did too.
Until we meet again...
