Twelve Reasons for a Nguyen Restoration
I. The monarchy alone can provide the correct leadership for following the traditional Confucian moral code that East Asia has lived by for five thousand years.
II. The monarchy alone can rule according to the Kingly Way of benevolence and righteousness, accepted and admired by all people of every belief.
III. The trust and respect of the populace is necessary for any government to function well and only the monarchy can accomplish this as is seen in all monarchies worldwide.
IV. Vietnam and the rest of East and Southeast Asia share the same moral principles and ideals. For peace and prosperity to grow and spread, traditional values must be honored and respected. Only the monarchy can do this.
V. Vietnam has suffered acutely over the past decades by the imposition of foreign systems such as communist republicanism and the resulting disunity, war and oppression. Outside of the political party elites, who selfishly put their own welfare above their people and country, all sections of society suffer from this, oppose the republican dictatorship and wish for the return of the Nguyen Dynasty. Because of this, the monarchy must be fully restored.
VI. The Montagnards and various ethnic minorities have always struggled to maintain their unique traditions and were granted autonomy by the Nguyen Emperor. Their honor and freedom can only be guaranteed by a full restoration of the monarchy.
VII. The Communist Party continues to strengthen its hold on power while poverty, social, political and religious persecution as well as corporate exploitation by foreign companies continues to rise. From nations such as Thailand, Cambodia and Japan, we can see clearly that the restoration of the imperial system is essential to protect the stability of the country, the welfare of the people and to protect the values, beliefs and traditions unique to the East Asian region. To do this, the monarchy must be restored.
VIII. The Great Nguyen Dynasty has reigned over Dai Nam for 143 years and in the south for centuries preceding that. To foster respect for Vietnamese culture, trust by the people for their national leadership, peace and stability in the country, veneration of Asian ethics and values, continue the revival of traditional monarchist government in Southeast Asia, the Nguyen monarchy must be restored.
IX. The history of independence and prosperity in Thailand came with the rise of the Chakri Dynasty. Independence and peaceful government in Cambodia came only with the restoration of H.M. King Norodom Sihanouk. The rise to prominence and wealth in Japan came after the restoration of the Meiji Emperor. These monarchies, as well as the Great Viet Empire and others of honored memory, spread the ideals of morality, loyalty, righteousness and cultural preservation, independent of political party divisiveness. In Vietnam, such greatness only ever was achieved under the reign of such benevolent monarchs of honored memory as Ly Cong Uan, Le Thanh Thong and Nguyen Minh Mang. To follow the path of these great leaders it is essential that the monarchy be restored.
X. The Vietnamese people have continued to honor and commemorate their imperial heritage. They visit the Holy Citadel, make offerings at the temples and imperial tombs and celebrate the traditional festivals such as Tet and Nam Giao. These customs are at the core of Vietnamese culture and the country cannot be without them. Yet, as long as the Emperor is absent, they cannot be complete or carry the same sacred meaning they once did. Only by a full restoration of the monarchy can the integrity and complete celebration of these traditions be accomplished.
XI. Across East Asia, only those countries which have maintained their monarchist leadership have also been able to maintain their values, independence and freedom from cruel and murderous regimes. Today, Cambodia has thrown off her Communist oppressors and restored the monarchy. The people of Laos strongly desire to do the same. To continue the movement, the Nguyen monarchy must be restored. This would build the momentum to carry on the struggle for the total revival and liberation of East Asia to build a new future for the entire region based on shared values, legitimate, traditional authority; peaceful stability and economic prosperity. To seize this opportunity and expand this movement it is crucial to restore the monarchy as soon as possible.
XII. Since that fateful day in 1945 when H.M. Emperor Bao Dai, under extreme pressure, abdicated the throne, the Imperial Family has made no effort to forcefully regain power or interfere in political affairs but has shown nothing but respect for the wishes and welfare of the people. Neither the Emperor, his children or the children of previous emperors have ambitiously sought any personal glory, political power or special privileges because of their status. They have been content to live as private citizens and act in accordance with the best interests of their people. They have not actively sought any position for themselves and would be willing to support as private citizens anyone else who would take the lead in restoring the True Way and these principles in Vietnam. If, however, the people are moved to call upon them for leadership and assume the burden of responsibility it is essential that the rightful heir be given the appropriate title and authority to make the necessary changes to save the country. If the new Emperor is given only a symbolic, honorary position, he would be unable to help the people and become simply an added expense. Who could, having any principles, enjoy privileged status without being able to use that status for the good of the country? If the Nguyen heirs only desired personal gain and public honors, they could have been taking advantage of their position throughout these years of exile. Yet, none of the true Imperial Family members have done this, they have not put themselves forward and they have not conspired with foreign powers to regain their position. It is purely because of their concern for the country and the people of Vietnam that they wait for a true restoration of the imperial system, which is the only way to solve the ongoing crisis since the ascendancy of the republican regime.
