It is said that Nicola Tesla is the inventor of AC-power supply. We certainly use a lot of AC-power in our homes. But he intended to supply power through the atmosphere. He wanted to light the paris world-exhibition from power in New York, and transmit it with this crazy tower, using "conductiong layers" in the earth's atmosphere.

The tower was torn down, after people incorrectly assumed that german U-boats were using it to orient themselves in the first world war.
