One common problem an atheist faces is the fact that a lot of people don't know what an atheist is. Sure, it sounds ridiculous, but the fact is that most people mistake the definition of atheism with a certain type of atheist. This area of my site will link to places on the web that explain what atheism is. Or, you can click here to get my (very short) explanation of atheism. I see no need in having many links defining atheism, so I'll only have a few. If you know of a site that you think absolutely SHOULD be here, send me the URL. I'll also add a few arguments for atheism. |
Atheism vs. Agnosticism: The difference between the two - The difference between atheism and agnosticism. Atheism FAQ - Gives the difference between "strong" and "weak" atheism. The Atheism Web: Introduction to Atheism - A "pretend" conversation between an atheist and a theist. This tactic is used to give define atheism, it's quite interesting. It attempts to explain the difference between disbelieving in a god and believing a god doesn't exist, among other "fuzzy" areas of atheism, such as the difference between weak atheism and agnosticism. It also deals with the tired accusation that atheism is a religion. I highly recommend this site. Atheism -- What It Is, and What It's Not - This site doesn't go into any depth as to what atheism is or is not. Also, the author makes, what I consider, serious mistakes in a few areas. For example, he says that to the atheist doctrine, murder is a serious issue. This isn't an atheist doctrine, there are no doctrines in atheism. Still, that's just MY opinion. I thought I'd throw this one in for the hell of it. Atheism 101: A Prime For the Newly Godless - This is short and sweet. Considering the brevity, it's concise and what I consider to be an accurate definition of atheism. Again, this is short. It doesn't go into any depth regarding the nature of atheism or the different types. What is an atheist? agnostic? theist? - Defines atheism, agnosticism, and theism. I recommend this page not only because it defines all three atheism, agnosticism, and even theism, but also because it does a damn good job. Is Proof of the Non-Existence of a God Even Possible? - A response to the claim that it is imossible to prove that a god doesn't exist. This essay examines the possibility of a proof the atheistic point of view. Arguments from Incoherence - Argues the incoherence of "God." Atheistic Cosmological Arguments - In short, they argue that there is no room or need for a god from what we are learning about our universe. Check out the one about Stephen Hawking, I'm a fan of his. Arguments from physical minds - These are arguments which often go un-heard. The argument is: that our mind, our awareness, depends on a physical brain, is evidence for atheism. Arguments from Evil - The existence of evil is used as an argument for atheism. |
