AEC Regent III

The first motorbuses purchased by Ipswich Corporation were six AEC Regent III in 1950 for a route 9B to Whitehouse. The type was very successful and a further 10 were recieved until the marque was superceded by the improved Regent V.

ADX 1 - The pioneer motorbus in the fleet,
ADX 1 is superbly captured in the
Constantine Road Depot surrounded by
AECs in the form of another Regent III and
two Regal IVs.

ADX 1 - Now magnificently restored to its
original glory by the Ipswich Transport
Museum, ADX 1 can now be seen out on
the road at various times during the year.
Here, on the 50th anniversary since it first
started motorbus operation for Ipswich, it is
seen on its old terminus of the Cornhill,
specially reopened to buses for the day on
14th May 2000. The sight of two Regents
travelling through the main streets of Ipswich
was something that I wont forget in a hurry!

CDX 516 - another superbly restored bus,
this Regent is a credit to its owner John
Bedford. It is seen back in Ipswich on the
Motorbus 50 celebrations, specially posed
to simulate coming out of Lloyds Avenue,
now closed to buses. It usually resides at
Cobham Bus Museum.
