Dublin: Lucan has got the go ahead for a park! A meeting was held in the sports centre which will be the probable site for the park. There will be a further meeting soon where skaters can influence the design of the park.Click here to join Lucan skate club. Bushy park has had council approval for a facility since last year. Fingal county council have produced a report on the provision of a park in their borough and Dun Laoghaire and Rathdown council are working on their report at the moment. It's anyones guess as to who will actually build one and when it will be built. |

Bushy Park, Terenure, Dublin City council are building a skatepark here to be completed by the end of summer. The park will be concrete and will be a mix of street, bowl and bank. The park will be located within the fenced tennis court enclosure in the area currently taken up by two basketball courts and will extend back to include a petanque (boules) court .See plan. Lucan, After 15 years of campaigning by the Lucan skatepark club South Dublin County Council are building a skatepark this summer at the Grifeen Valley sports centre in Lucan. The good news is that they seem to be in agreement that it should be built in concrete. The design of the park is not done yet so if you have an idea of what your ideal park would look like or have been to a park that you thought was amazing send in photos / drawings to irishskateparkforum@yahoo.co.uk and we’ll pass them on to the council officials. To use the park you will need to be a member of Lucan skatepark club, membership is open to anyone, you don’t have to live in Lucan. Join here. South County Dublin Dunlaoghaire and Rathdown county council are hosting a public meeting on the 9th of March to discuss the building of a skatepark in their borough. It is VERY important to attend this meeting, as a good show of support at this stage is vital to the project going ahead. |

Cork : Instead of taking over the allready existing indoor woodworx park which is currently closed due to lack of insurance the council are aiming to ban street skating (more here) and maybe build a new park in the Bishopstown Leisure Centre. Navan. Jason "Dexter" Toher a skater from Trim has been campaigning for a skatepark to be built in Navan. He's enlisted the help of local TD Damien English to bring the issue to the attention of the council. Jason has been educating Mr English as to the needs of skaters in the country .I'd imagine Mr English (soon to be youth affairs spokesperson) is the only person in the Dail to have read Sidewalk and watched a Puzzle video! Waterford: After all the complaints about the waterford skatepark , finally something is being done about it. Local skaters in co-operation with waterford city council organised ajam at the park last week to try and raise funds to extend and improve the park.Press report. BMX Trails. The dirt jumps in Chuckies ,St Annes Park, Raheny, Dublin have reportedly been demolished by the Corporation, the trails in Cork have gone the same way too. The council are clearing these areas to make way for new cider-drinking and glue-sniffing facilities. Nice work guys. We shall overcome y'all! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Galway: The skate area in Galway is finished and features an 5ft high 12ft wide quarterpipe built by Rhino ramps and funbox with rail. A larger facility is reportedly planned to be built next to it by the council. The skate area (not really big enough to deserve the title skatepark) is on University Rd near the cathedral. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Kilkenny : We droped in to the Kiltorcan raceway skatepark on the way back from Waterford. This park is sick but well under-used. I couldn't believe how a park as good as this isn't packed out. Go there if you can ,NOW! |

NEWBRIDGE, County Kildare : The skaters of Newbridge in Kildare have been working hard at trying to get facilities built by Kildare county council for a number of years now. Similar calls for facilities have also been made in Naas and Athy. It seems like Newbridge will be the first town in Kildare to get facilities though. According to a local press report permission has been granted for a skatepark to be included in the development of a 97'000 euro park that is to be built . Click here to read more.... |
