Wedding Cakes
Endless Love by Lionel Ritchie
sequenced by Deb Ackley
The wedding cake symbolises a lifetime of sharing as a couple, and the cutting of the cake should be an "event".

When choosing your cake, be it buttercake/white vanilla,  or traditional rich fruit cake, you should choose a cake to suit you, the couple, your personalities and your decorating tastes.
White wedding cakes are simple yet elegant and can be dressed your way, to impress.
Use sugar or fresh flowers, ornaments or figurines and a white cake can take on its own style.
Many different types of icing are used these days.  Some with soft white icing, and many more with fondant.

Decorations can be hand-painted on, or made with the actual fondant. Rolled fondant does give a smooth and elegant look to wedding cakes.
This cake (left) has hand-painted fern fronds
with fondant icing.  Hexagonal and round layers have been used for this wonderful effect.
Notice the candle as the top piece.
Many brides are using their imaginations to think of different shapes for their cakes.  Today you see hearts, squares, round, ovals, hexagons, or a mixture of one or more shapes.
Theme cakes are popular with beach themes, country themes and  a use of  strong colour, instead of traditional white.
This cake is 2 rich fruit cakes, covered with fondant icing and fondant flowers..all edible.
Brides whose wedding has a particular colour scheme, like pale pastel pink, are decorating their cakes around their colour choice.
A cake that looks like a stack of presents is a popular choice  - using squares, like gift-wrapped presents, tied with bows nad stacked on top of one another and bows/ribbons cascading down.

Roses, orchids, carnations and pansies are now often used, fresh, as cake decoration.  Made into cascading formations, or small bouquets, they can make a simple plain cake quite stunning.
Instead of using a plastic bride and groom on top of the cake, think about fresh flowers, blown-glass designs, crystal decorations or porcelain cherubs,  instead.

What about surrounding the cake with decorated baskets of chocolates, sugared almonds, fresh fruit, or some other sweet for something very different. Try seasonal ideas for Christmas, Valentines, Easter, etc.
Use ribbons, tulle, lace around the base.
For something different try a Truffle Wedding Cake.  Handmade chocolates can be used in interesting and effective ways for a wedding cake.
This single layer very very rich Mud Cake was set on a large mirror and surround by icing sugar
and tasted wonderful.
