The It's a Knockout Pilgrimage -- Virtual Pilgrimage
We at The It's a Knockout Web realise that it is not always practical for fans to make an immediate full pilgrimage to the site, so we have done it for you and present the Virtual Pilgrimage.
Our Destination
It's a Knockout was staged at Englefield Stadium in Dural, New South Wales, Australia. Set in forested area, it was an idyllic location and attractive for the viewing audience.
Map of It's a Knockout site, Dural, around 1972. This map would have changed little to that of 1985-87. IAK witness Brad Cooper recalls: "Driving up along New Line Road towards IAK, there was a small paper sign opposite Jenner Rd., directing you towards the stadium. It gave no clues as to the enormity of the production". In the show's intro sequence, the helicopter view approaches the stadium over forest from the south-east, parallel to New Line Rd., starting around Purchase Rd. Jenner Rd. can be seen beyond the stadium and New Line Rd. is conveniently off-screen to the left. For a video of the intro sequence, see the video and sounds section.
The property was vacant post-IAK (1994 pics coming soon). Things change over time, of course and Sydney's growing population need somewhere to live.
1994 map. Note the increase in the number of streets from 1972. The cul-de-sac Caber Cl. partially covers the site.
Now. Additional cul-de-sacs now cover the ground.
What is left? Is there any evidence remaining of IAK?
