Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Prodigal Daughter

Season 7 Episode 11

Plot Summary: When O'Brien goes missing at New Sydney, Ezri seeks the help of her family (Who own a Big corporation there) to find him. Unfortunately Ezri's persistent mother will not help unless her daughter comes home for a visit. Ezri complies and Reunites with her brothers Janel and Norvo. Unbeknownst to her, the family has had some dealings with the evil Orion Syndicate (See last year's Honor Among Thieves).

At this point there's a whole bunch of interaction between Ezri and her family. Eventually O'Brien is found. He was searching for Bilby's Widow (Also from Honor Among Thieves) and found her - dead. He believes the Syndicate had her killed for some reason or another. After a little checking, O'Brien finds that Bilby's widow had been on Ezri's mother's payroll. Yet Ezri's mother had no knowledge of this. Her brother Janel had accepted help from the Orion Syndicate, and in return he had been paying the widow of one of their operatives. But Mrs. Bilby had been asking for more money, demanding more money, so Ezri's other brother, Norvo, killed the old woman.

Ezri leaves her family in shambles as Norvo is arrested and Janel is thinking of leaving the family bussiness. Back on DS9 she ponders how she should have checked back with them more often.

Sub-Plot: None

My Opinion: This episode had a whole bunch of semi-interesting build-up which eventually led to.... Nothing.

It really wasn't a bad episode, it just needed a lot more meaning for all the family interaction they made us watch. I did enjoy some of that, but it all seems so useless now. Again, some of it I did like, but there wasn't enough purpose or climax to make it worth it.

On a more positive note: I really like the word "Norvo". Norvo! And the references to Honor Among Thieves were nice.

Wrap-Up: "Prodigal Daughter" had some nice references, some good character interaction, and a Trill named Norvo. But besides that, there really wasn't any substance to it. I give it two and a half stars.
