Season 7 Episode 18
Plot Summary: PLOT A: Sisko initially tells Kassidy that the wedding is off, but after having second thoughts rushes to have the ceremony instantly. Admiral Ross performs the wedding. The two exchange vows as Sisko receives yet another warning from Sarah the Prophet. He has his qualms but finalizes the marriage anyway. A sad Kira looks on as the two kiss, for she knows the Prophets are never mistaken...
PLOT B: Kai Winn comes to DS9 in hopes of performing the Emissary's wedding. But her plans are changed when she has a vision from who she thinks are the Prophets (I'm betting on Pagh-Wraiths, but you never know...). The "Prophets" inform her that she will soon meet a man who she should let guide her and through he, Bajor into new times. The next Bajoran she meets turns out to be Dukat (Incognito), and he plays his part wonderfully. Soon she's willing to do whatever he recommends. And the two even start to fall in love, as they slowly discuss their mutual dislike of the Emissary...
PLOT C: Worf and Ezri, trapped in a Breen holding cell, discuss the status of their relationship and the status of the Breen. Apparently, these guys are quite powerful, yet have kept to themselves for all these years. The status of their relationship is less clear. They love each other and despise each other. The Breen do tests on them, and these tests leave them unconsciously repeating lines from previous episodes. But thrown into these lines, is Ezri expressing her love of Dr. Bashir (whatever.), and this makes Worf angrier...
Sub-Plot: DAU (Dominion Activity Udate): Weyoun is getting craftier, The Founders are getting crustier, and Damar is still drunk. But all of a sudden the whole bunch of them get on a Jem'Hadar ship and rendezvous with the Breen. There they announce that they will soon form an alliance, and the Breen hand over their gifts to the Dominion: Worf and Ezri...
My Opinion: Yet another part of a very big whole. A good part, but a part nonetheless, and it really has been showing recently. They are in no way attempting to make these episodes work on they're own. They are like chapters of a book. This is a complaint (Minor as it may be), but not one that will affect the ratings of these episodes.
I'm really enjoying most of this huge arch: Sisko' s gamble, Dukat's duplicity, Winn's gullibility, The Breen's sudden appearance. It's all quite well-thought-out and well-put-together. But then you come to the Worf and Ezri stuff, and you just want to cry. They're throwing these two characters in to a soap opera mess, and that's not a very entertaining prospect. Especially with a character as loved and well-known as Worf. He's had the most appearances of any character in Star Trek, and he's being reduced to a soap opera stereo type! Ezri, I don't mind seeing messed up as much, but that's only because she's such a new character. If they're going to mess her up, do they have to let her pull Worf with her!? But it's too late now. I think the whole matter could have gone better with some meaningful conversations (It started out that way!) rather than blatant arguing. And then they threw Dr. Bashir into the mess! Argh! Soap Opera Hell!!! Oh-well, maybe they'll both be executed by the Dominion...
Besides PLOT C, the whole episode is getting me really excited to the big Finale, at the end of the season. They're doing a very good job creating suspense and build up with the whole "Sisko' s greatest trial" thing. Let's hope the Climax is worthy of all this great pretense!
Wrap-Up: "Till Death do Us Part" was a good show, despite some character short-comings. Another great lead-up to the series finale. I give it three stars.
