Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Strange Bedfellows

Season 7 Episode 19

Plot Summary:

PLOT A: Kai Winn and Dukat take the lead spot this week. They're in love, when all of a sudden the Pagh-Wraiths reveal themselves to Winn. Dukat (whether he was expecting their revelation or not) also spills the beans in where his loyalties lie. Winn is originally disgusted, by this and throws Dukat out. She cries, wails to the Prophets for guidance, gets none, and finally turns to Kira for advice. Kira, her usual blunt self, reveals that she thinks Winn's sudden sadness and wish for the Prophet's forgiveness is a sign that she should give up her position as Kai. This causes Winn to have another change of heart. Give up being Kai!? Why? To appeal to the Prophets!? They've never done anything for me! They never call, they never write! Maybe Dukat was right! Finally she turns to Dukat's side, pledging her loyalty to the Pagh-Wraiths

PLOT B: Worf and Ezri take 2nd billing as their emotional turmoil finally reaches a conclusion. The verdict: Worf has been guilty of not loving Ezri because she is so much a part of Jadzia (or is it vice-versa? These Trill matters are so confusing...) Anyway, whatever relations passed between them have been deemed "a mistake" and they both admit they do not love one another, No they can just be good friends, and Ezri is free to go over to Julian... (sigh.)

PLOT C: DAU has been moved here due to rapid increase in importance! This just in: The Breen have joined the club! Weyoun 7 was killed by Worf in a fit of rage! Weyoun 8 is just as persistent! Damar has finally gone over the edge and committed treason by freeing Worf and Ezri! The Female Shape-shifter lost another 12 pounds!

Sub-Plot: Sisko and Kassidy are a happy couple... FOR NOW! BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!

My Opinion: I've finally been very impressed by a final chapter episode! Unlike it's predecessors, this episode was not just "good"! It was "very good"!!!   For starters, I love Kai Winn's change from good to evil! The course of emotions she took was so natural and perfectly fitting of the character! I loved it! The only problem I have with "plot A" was the sudden change of Dukat's evil scheme. The whole 2nd Pagh-Wraith vision seemed so un-called for, so not-flowing... oh-well. It worked out well. I also love what they did with the Worf and Ezri nonsense! Just when I thought they were about to toss the characters off a cliff, they rescue them, and give them both sonic showers! We finally got a good conversation, and we also got results from it! And the results are good! We don't have to swallow a Worf-Ezri relationship! Hurrah!!!   Poor Sisko...

Wrap-Up: "Strange Bedfellows" is definitely the best part of the "Final Chapter" so far, and it's also one of my personal favorites of the year! So many great revelations! But what really matters, is that they were all done wonderfully! I give it three and a half stars!
