Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

The Magnificent Ferengi

Season 6 Episode 10

Plot Summary: The Dominion captures a transport with Quark's mother, Ishka, on it and Quark hires a team of Ferengi to help negotiate a trade with her captors: Keevan the Vorta for the safe return of Ishka. The trade is set to take place on Empok Nor, but when they arrive Quark's cousin, Gaila, accidentally kills Keevan. The team is forced to come up with an alternate plan of action. They fix Keevan's body with neural stimulators, fooling the Dominion representatives and escaping with Ishka.

Sub-Plot: None

My Opinion: This episode was completely ridiculous and unbelievable, but if you take it for what it is, a comedy, you'll have a great time. It was full of great Ferengi moments, funny scenes and dialogue, and tons of fun. Some of my favorite scenes were: the holosuite practice battle scenario, the bickering among the Ferengi, and the negotiation scenes between Quark and Yelgrun, the Vorta sent to make the trade. The climax, where the Ferengi turned over the neurally stimulated Keevan was hilarious. Overall this episode was very good if you take it lightly, and don't try to make sense out of the events. However, It fails in comparison to some of the best of the season.

Wrap-Up: "The Magnificent Ferengi" was nothing great, but if you don't take it seriously and recognize it as a comedy it can be quite enjoyable. With great dialogue and some very funny moments it's really a good episode. I give it three stars.
