Season 6 Episode 11
Plot Summary: Stranded on an unsettled planet, Sisko and Dukat discuss their relationship. Dukat longs for Sisko to forgive him for his past on Bajor, and Sisko will do no such thing. Haunted and taunted by visions of Weyoun, Damar, and Kira, Dukat goes mad beating Sisko and leaving the planet screaming about how he's going to destroy Bajor. Sisko is rescued by the Defiant.
Sub-Plot: Worf in command of the Defiant searches for Sisko and other survivors. He is instructed to cancel his search and go protect a convoy. The crew of the Defiant consider disobeying Kira's orders so that they can continue their search, but Worf set their priorities straight.
My Opinion: This was a good episode. It wasn't very visually appealing, but the dialogue was lengthy, interesting, and clever. Dukat's insanity was well dealt with, a fine follow up to his state in "Sacrifice of Angels". The use of characters as representing different parts of his psyche wasn't an original idea but it was executed superbly. The "trial" scene at the climax was equally powerful. At times I must admit I was slightly bored while watching this episode, but by the end it's meaning was powerful and clear. Dukat's threats appeared dramatically real and Sisko's realization that Dukat was true evil seemed hauntingly genuine. And yet, Dukat still looked as if he really believed what he was doing was right.
Wrap-Up: "Waltz" was a powerful, well thought out, drama that left me thinking about whether or not Dukat really is true evil. Dukat's insanity was well portrayed and the mood of this episode was very haunting. It was truly a work of art. I give it three stars.
