Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Who Mourns for Morn?

Season 6 Episode 12

Plot Summary: When Morn is presumed dead, Quark finds out he is his sole heir. Quark's inheritance is 1,000 bricks of gold-pressed latinum, but he's not the only one who wants it. Two brothers, a woman who claims to be Morn's widow, and a man who poses as a security offer arrive at DS9 in hopes to get the money before the others. Eventually it is revealed that they were all, with Morn, involved in robbing a bank of the 1,000 bricks, then Morn ran off with the latinum. The four of them and Quark team up to split the latinum five ways, but when it arrives they all pull guns on one another. In the end Morn's associates wind up in prison, and Quark realizes that the 1,000 bricks are empty. The next day Morn returns to DS9 alive and well. He had set Quark up to get the foursome off his back, and all the while he was storing the liquid latinum in his second stomach.

Sub-Plot: None

My Opinion: This was an enjoyable episode, even though it lacked something. It was exceedingly silly, and it had some fun moments, but overall it wasn't to impressive. My favorite scene was Bashir and O'Brien keeping Morn's chair warm. The plot was mostly predictable with a few interesting twists, and some of the guest stars were funny, yet what I liked most about it was the overall feel of the episode. The atmosphere was laid back and relaxed, similar to that of "You Are Cordially Invited", and the mood was pleasant.

Wrap-Up: "Who Mourns for Morn?" was a pretty good episode. The plot was predictable and the episode lacked something, but the overall mood was pleasant and the character interaction was fun. I give it two and a half stars.
