Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

One Little Ship

Season 6 Episode 14

Plot Summary: The Defiant is surveying an anomaly that makes objects smaller the closer they are to the center of it. Dax, O'Brien, and Bashir are exploring it in a runabout, when the Defiant is taken over by the Jem'Hadar. The trio is forced to exit the anomaly by an alternate route than they had entered it, causing them to remain tiny. When they enter the Defiant they find Sisko and Co. being forced to fix the warp core under watch of Jem'Hadar. What the Jem'Hadar don't realize is that not all of them are actually working on the core. Nog is trying to reroute command functions from the bridge to the engine room. The trio fly their runabout up to the bridge to help Nog. Eventually, thanks to the trio Nog finishes his work. Then the runabout returns and a battle ensues. The Jem'Hadar are defeated and Sisko takes the Defiant bake to DS9.

Sub-Plot: Jem'Hadar bred in the Alpha quadrant bicker with those bred in the Gamma quadrant.

My Opinion: When I first saw the preview for this episode, I laughed myself silly. I sat down to watch it expecting the worse, but it was one of the most entertaining episodes of the year! It was so well done, with great acting and a feast of visual effects, only an absurd plot idea keeps it from being a four star episode. There was great dialogue too! Not only among the cast, but among the Jem'Hadar also. The sub-plot just made the episode even better. Perhaps the best thing about this episode is that it took an absurd idea and succeeded in making it believable.

Wrap-Up: "One Little Ship" took an absurd idea and made it believable. It also had great acting, enjoyable dialogue, and a dazzling feast of visual effects. I give it three and a half stars!
