Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Honor Among Thieves

Season 6 Episode 15

Plot Summary: O'Brien is sent on an undercover mission to monitor the actions of Bilby, a member of the Orion Syndicate. However O'Brien and Bilby become friends, and when O'brien tells his link to Starfleet that the Syndicate has ordered Bilby to assassinate a Klingon ambassador in an attempt to frame Gowron, O'Brien realizes he has just led his friend to his death. O'Brien runs off to tell Bilby that the Klingons will be ready for him. But it doesn't make a difference. If Bilby doesn't go, the syndicate will have him killed, and if he runs away with O'Brien the Syndicate will have his family killed. Sadly Bilby goes off to meet his fate.

Sub-Plot: There isn't really a sub-plot, but there's a funny scene in which the crew is complaining about everything malfunctioning on DS9 while O'Brien is away.

My Opinion: This episode was similar to "Resurrection" in that the whole story line was predictable and it just led up to the inevitable conclusion. The difference between this and "Resurrection" was that the storyline was full of good moments, and the conclusion was great and extremely moving. The acting in this episode was great, probably the best of the season. Colm Meaney and Nick Tate (Bilby) made a great team. In essence this episode was a tragedy, even though O'Brien could warn Bilby, there was nothing he could do to save him.

Wrap-Up: "Honor Among Thieves" a good episode. Even though it had a predictable plot, it was filled with good moments, an emotional climax, and some of the best acting of the season. I give it three stars.
