Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Wrongs Darker Than Death and Night

Season 6 Episode 17

Plot Summary: Dukat sends Kira the message that he and her mother, Meru, had been lovers. Outraged and eager to find out the truth, Kira travels back in time via the orb of time. She finds out that Dukat was telling the truth and decides to help the resistance murder both Dukat and Meru. After planting a bomb in their quarters, Kira learns the reason Meru allowed herself to fall in love with Dukat. Dukat had promised to give her husband and children on Bajor food and supplies. This revelation snaps Kira back into the reality that she is about to kill her own mother. She quickly rushes both Dukat and Meru out of the room as the bomb explodes. She then returns to DS9 in the present and ponders all that has occurred.

Sub-Plot: None

My Opinion: This was a pretty good episode despite a few plot problems. I couldn't believe that Sisko would allow Kira to travel to the past and risk altering the time line. I also couldn't believe that Kira would voluntarily disrupt the time line by killing Dukat! These actions seem uncharacteristically foolish. Another discrepancy was the manner in which the orb of time functioned. it behaved differently than it did in "Trials and Tribble-ations." Finally the events of this episode seemed to lead up to nothing. Despite all the problems, It was still a good story and it was told extremely well. I enjoyed seeing young Dukat in action and Kira's blunt responses to the Cardassians' scolds were hilarious.

Wrap-Up: "Wrongs Darker Than Death and Night" was pretty good, but it could have been better. It had many good scenes and good dialogue, but it had a few too many plot problems. I give it two and one half stars.
