Rocks and Shoals

          Season 6 Episode 2

Plot Summary: Stranded in Cardssian a space, Sisko and Co. are attacked and wind up marooned on a planet hidden inside an uncharted nebula. Apparently two days earlier some Jem'Hadar crashed down onto the same planet, injuring their Vorta in the process. Sisko talks with Keevan the Vorta and is told that the Jem'Hadar will attack his base camp. Keevan gives Sisko their battle plan, a move which means certain death for the Jem'hadar. Keevan needs the Jem'Hadar eliminated before he runs out of ketracel white and they go on a mad killing spree. Sisko is disturbed by having to kill men who don't stand a chance but he doesn't see another solution to the problem.

Sub-Plot: A Bajoran Vedik hangs herself to motivate Kira into doing something about the occupation.

My Opinion: This was an excellent episode! "Rocks and Shoals" Was surprisingly moving. Until now, I had never felt sorry for a Jem'Hadar. The most moving moment in the show was when Keevan was walking over the bodies of his massacred men looking down at them disdainfully. The look on his face made me want to kill him. I believe Sisko shared the feeling. And the sub-plot was equally powerful! It too stirred up emotions and left me thinking and contemplating the issues brought up.

Wrap-Up: "Rocks and Shoals" was a powerful, slightly disturbing tragedy that gave me something to think about. It was a perfect example of how a good single story can be part of a much larger one. I give it four stars!
