Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

The Reckoning

Plot Summary: The Bajorans find an ancient tablet that mentions the emissary, so Sisko brings it back to DS9 for Dax to study. This upsets Kai Winn and she goes to the station to demand that the tablet be returned to Bajor. Sisko eventually agrees, but the night before Winn plans to leave he gives into an urge to smash the tablet. In doing so he unleashes a prophet and a pagh-wraith. The two of them intend to hold a batle of good versus evil on DS9. The prophet chooses to use Kira's body, while the pagh-wraith chooses Jake's. Worf and Dax implore Sisko to let them stop the battle with some sort of technobabble. But, To fulfill the will of the prophets, Sisko is willing to risk Jake's life as well as the destruction of DS9. The battle begins and evan though everyone else is evacuating, Sisko is adament about staying. Kai Winn, jealous that Sisko's faith might be greater than her own, activates Worf's technobabble and ends the battle prematurely.

Sub-Plot: None

My Opinion: This was a good episode. It had good acting, a lot of great moments, and a wonderful storyline. The only problem is it seemed a little disappointing, considering all the build- up. With episodes like "Sacrifice of Angels" and "Far Beyond the Stars" all leading up to Sisko's "different path", I hope there's more than just this. And yet, It sounded mighty conclusive. The prophet told Sisko that he had played his part. Maybe it just meant his part in the reckoning, but, if so, I think the scene came off the wrong way. Yes, overall I enjoyed this very much. I just hope this isn't the end of Sisko's "different path."

Wrap-Up: "The Reckoning" was good episode and it had some very funny lines, but I hope this is not the only event that "Sacrifice of Angels" and "Far Beyond the Stars" were hinting at. I give it three stars.
