The Sound of Her Voice

Season 6 Episode 25

Plot Summary: The defiant receives a distress call from Captain Lisa Cussack, who's stuck on a planet with a high Carbon dioxide level. Her ship was destroyed when it got to close to the planet. The Defiant rushes to the rescue, but takes six days to get to her. Along the way the crew chat's with her and as their conversations progress, new aspects of the characters are revealed. By the time the Defiant gets to the planet, and the crew go down to rescue her, Lisa is dead. She had died three years ago, but because of the planets strange atmosphere, they could talk across a time gap. In the final scene, her funeral, the crew talks of how important their friendship is, and how devastating it would be to lose a member of their circle.

Sub-Plot: Quark uses Odo's relationship with Kira, to distract the constable while he goes about his nefarious doings.

My Opinion: This was good. I enjoyed the conversations a lot, but it didn't seem as if their was enough point to the episode. The had the conversations, they had an interesting sci-fi twist at the end, but why did they do it? The obvious answer is so that they could have the final "we're all good friends" scene, to prepare the viewers for the season finale. For those who new that we'd be losing a character in the finale, this seemed a shallow ploy to set the mood of death. And for those who didn't know, they blatantly announced it in that awful preview at the end! Over all the material in the episode was interesting enough to keep the episode enjoyable, and the plot was original, so in the end what the meaning of the episode was didn't matter to much.

Wrap-Up: "The Sound of Her Voice" was an enjoyable character episode, which is always good, but it wasn't much else. I give it three stars.
