Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Favor the Bold

Season 6 Episode 5

Plot Summary: Rom tries to get Quark to down Damar's plan to deactivate the minefield. Kira and Ziyal try to convince Dukat to free Rom, but Weyoun is determined to him executed as an example. Odo is torn between his feelings for Kira and his desire to learn more about himself. Damar gets the pulp beaten out of him by Kira. And Dukat's desire for Ziyal to be at his side deepens as he watches Damar continue to shut down the mines.

Sub-Plot: Sisko presents a plan to Starfleet that maps out the retake of DS9. After it's approved the fleet moves out to confront the Dominion/Cardassian fleet.

My Opinion: Basically, this episode just progressed every aspect of the story a smidgen forward, just enough to get you ready for the next episode. But even though nothing happens, nothing turns out to be quite enjoyable. Sticking to this season's trend, the acting was great. The man of the hour was Weyoun. His character was great fun in this episode, while still maintaining his usual evil disposition. All the rising tension was good and seeing Kira wallop Damar was a gem. My only complaint was Sisko's out-of-place, over-exaggerated speech about Bajor. Where did that come from!? Oh-well, No episode is perfect.

Wrap-Up: "Favor the Bold" was good, but not good enough to match the best of this season. The building up of tension was fun but not much happened here. I give it three stars.
