Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Sacrifice of Angels

Season 6 Episode 6

Plot Summary: The Defiant, along with the rest of the Starfleet armada, attacks the Dominion/Cardassian fleet. The Defiant makes it past the enemy fleet while the rest of the Starfleet ships, with some help from the Klingons, stay behind to fight. When the Defiant arrives at DS9 they find the minefield deactivated and the station's weapons off line. Proceeding into the wormhole, Sisko convinces the prophets to destroy the Dominion fleet on its way to the Alpha quadrant. Hopeless, the occupation force evacuates the station. Dukat is left behind, mourning the death of Ziyal at the hands of Damar.

Sub-Plot: Kira and Co. shut down DS9's weapons system, yet fail to stop Dukat from destroying the mines.

My Opinion: This was very well done, a good conclusion to the epic six-parter. Yet, it was full of coincidences. The defiant was the only ship to make it past the enemy fleet, the Klingons arrived just in the nick of time, and Rom shut down the weapons in the same second that Dukat succeeded in destroying the minefield. On a happier note, the acting was, again, superb and the space fight visuals were beautiful! Dukat's insanity was a good twist and it was fun to see everyone reunite on the station, but the plot was a little too full of coincidences.

Wrap-Up: "Sacrifice of Angels" was good, but it could have been better. With a plot full of coincidences it just didn't fulfill my expectations for such a monumental episode. I give it three stars.
