Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

You Are Cordially Invited

Season 6 Episode 7

Plot Summary: Worf and Dax call off their wedding when Gen. Martok's wife finds Dax unworthy of her house and the fiancées argue. After getting some sense talked into them by Martok and Sisko, Worf and Dax agree to go through with their marriage. The ceremony occurs and Dax makes up with her mother-in-law.

Sub-Plot: Worf, Sisko, Martok, Bashir, O'Brien, and Alexander embark on a pain-filled journey, more commonly known as a Klingon bachelor party.

My Opinion: It was very much a relief to see station life return to normal after that long six-episode epic. The timing of this episode was fortunate (and probably not coincidental). In the middle of a line of standard DS9 episodes this would have seemed even sillier than it did here. I usually enjoy seeing the characters mingle around DS9, and this episode was no exception. It offered many good moments: Dax's weird party, Kira and Odo in the closet, and O'Brien and Bashir dangling over a fire moaning about killing Worf. However, the plot was predictable and stereotypical of television wedding episodes.

Wrap-Up: "You Are Cordially Invited" was lots of fun, but quite silly. Perhaps if it had been amidst standard DS9 episodes, instead of after the big six-parter, its silliness would have been more displeasing. Even though the plot was predictable, it was enjoyable enough to earn two and a half stars.
