Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Statistical Probabilities

Season 6 Episode 9

Plot Summary: Genetically enhanced mutants, who have not been able to lead normal lives, come to DS9 to see Bashir. The group proves themselves able to make accurate statistical projections of what will come. Eventually their theories lead to a horrible conclusion: there is no way the Federation can beat the Dominion! When Bashir suggests that they surrender to the Dominion, Sisko is outraged, despite the fact that the casualty number would be reduced. The mutants decide to take matters into their own hands, they plan to give Weyoun Starfleet battle plans in order to decrease casualty number, despite Bashir's protest. But even the mutants couldn't predict that one of their own would side with Bashir and ruin their plans. The mutants leave DS9 realizing that no projections can be accurate because of the innumerable amount of variables.

Sub-Plot: None

My Opinion: Excellent! This was one of the season's best episodes so far! The plot presented a problem that there was seemingly no solution to, and then gave a good plausible solution! This episode had dark undertones, yet was able to keep a fun atmosphere. With good acting, tons of great moments, and excellent plot twists there was virtually nothing bad about it. My favorite scenes were the conversations between O'Brien and Bashir, and almost anything with the mutants. Kudos to the DS9 staff!

Wrap-Up: "Statistical Probabilities" was excellent, with good acting, great moments, and fun plot twists this was possibly one of the best episodes of the season! I give it four stars!
