I Only Want Your Love

Ryou’s alarm clock chimed through the air waking him for his first day of school.  He yawned and smiled rubbing

the sleep from his eyes.

“Morning, yami!”

No response.

“Yami?”

Ryou turned around and saw the gold wedding band lying beside him.  He picked the ring up.

 Maybe Bakura dropped it.

“Yami? Bakura?”

Ryou climbed out of bed and went to his desk. The Millenium Ring was missing.  His little heart stopped when

he ran to the bathroom.

Maybe Bakura was in the bath.

No.

Maybe he was feeding the fish.  Ryou ran downstairs.

No.

Maybe he was in the kitchen making breakfast.

No.

Steven stood by the stove making Ryou eggs and toast.  He turned around and smiled happily at his son.

“Good morning, son! Sleep well?”

Ryou’s heart jumped into his throat and thumped.  “Bakura!  Bakura! Answer me!”

No answer.

Steven put down the spatula.  “it’s just you and me from now on, son.  I told you I’d find a way to get you back.”

The boy looked at his wedding ring as the tears began to swell behind his eyes.  Steven sealed Ryou in a tight embrace.

“Where is Bakura? Where is he?”

“Forget him. He doesn’t love you like I could.”

Ryou pushed Steen away.  “You’re right, dad! Bakura loves me better than you ever could!”

Steven gripped Ryou on his shoulders and shook him.  “You will not speak his name!”

“Bakura! Why?”

“You will not cry!”

Steven shoved him into the wall.  “You will not wear your ring!”

Steven began to wrestle the rings off of Ryou’s fingers, but Ryou fell to his knees curling into a ball with his

arms tucked beneath him.  “I will wear my ring! I will wear our rings!  You had no right to take him from me!

Daddy, I loved him! I loved him!” He gripped onto his father’s pants. “Where did you take the ring?”

“Hopefully some animal has buried it beneath the earth where it belongs.”

Steven took the crying boy by the arm and forced him into a chair. He scooped out breakfast and put it in front of him.

“I’m going to work to earn your trust.  You will obey me!  I am your father!”

Ryou’s POV

“I am your father!” he screamed at me.  No.  He’s wrong.  He is not my father.  My father……would

not treat me like a ragdoll.  My dad was always a horrible cook.  He slammed a plate of burnt toast and eggs which

were half done as the gooey yolk flooded the plate.  “EAT!” my father bellowed at me.  I had no choice.  I slowly ate the

food which could easily have been sipped through a straw.  Daddy, how could you do this to me?  Can’t you see I love him?

Why can’t you see I love you too?  I only want your love.  I want to love you….like I loved mommy.  I pause……I miss my mommy.

It’s impossible for me to say ‘I love you’ to my own father.  I can only say that to one person now….and that person

has been ripped away from me.

Struggling to keep the hideous combination in my stomach, I broke into sudden tears.

“Stop Crying!  Men don’t cry!  Men are strong!  Don’t be such a girl!”

I wept harder. Couldn’t help it.

“So the girl still cries, huh? Do you want me to call you ‘sweetcheeks’, ‘mufin’, ‘angel drawers’, or honeybunch’?

Why was he doing this?  It’s not easy…losing the one you love.

He grabbed my arm again leaving me shaking.  “Stop acting like a wimp!”

I tried to pull my arm free.  I wanted to scream to him, ‘Daddy! I love you! Please! Let me go!’ I screamed at the top

of my lungs afraid of his anger…like I used to be afraid of my yami.

He threw me to the floor.  “Get your butt ready for school!  If you are late for your first day, I swear, boy,

I will run you ragged!”

I ran upstairs into my room collapsing on the bed.

I wasn’t scared…I was petrified

I wasn’t alive…something in me had died.

After quickly changing for school, I ran downstairs still shaking.  My father waited at the door for me.

“So my girl isn’t wearing a dress for school?”

As much as my father deserves it, I can’t yell at him anymore.  I love him….but why should I?

“You come home right after school or I will find you and drag your prissy little ass back here.”

I couldn’t look my father in the eye.  My old life with an abusive relationship had returned.

My father once protected me from Bakura, coming to my rescue.  Now, he was no better than my old Bakura.

“I..I need money for lunch.”

“I’m sure a pretty thing like you can make money in not time.  Be creative.  I’m sure there’s lots of boys who

will give you money for a good time, little lady.”

With this, my own father threw me out the door.  I turned around as it was slammed in my face.  “Daddy, why?”

“GO TO SCHOOL!”

I ran to the closest friend’s house.  Yami and Yugi’s shop was only a few blocks away.  Malik and Marik’s home

was a little further away. I needed to get rid of that terrible breakfast like I had been doing the past week.

My stomach was once again tumbling.  I ran to Yugi’s gripping my stomach.

Normal POV

Yugi rolled his eyes as he was eating his breakfast cereal.  He worried about Yami. He knew he read

Cosmopolitan, but this was carrying it too far.

“Come on, Yugi,” Yami whined.  “We can see how we rate on this relationship quiz!”

“Yami, that is a girly magazine! I’m not doing this.”

Yami read from the magazine eating his cinnamon toast.  “’Question 1: Your boyfriend has asked you to

go to the mall, but you do not want to go. Do you…”

Yugi grunted and tried to think of something else.

“Do you…say…”I’m washing my hair?”

Yugi covered his ears.

“Do you go with him anyway?”

“Yami, this is pointless.”

“Say ‘I want to be by myself for a change?”

Yugi wished he was alone.

“Or say “That’s stupid.”

Yugi put his bowl in the sink having lost his appetite.  “This is stupid!”

“Why would you say that?”

“I’m not answering the question, Yami! I have to go to school.”

There was a knock at the door. Yami went to open it and Yugi ran to get his books.

It was probably Ryou coming to walk with him to school.

Yugi ran for his books trying to hide Yami’s Cosmopolitan magazines when he heard footsteps running

into the bathroom and a snap of the lock.  “Ryou! Ryou! You alright?”

Yami ran into Yugi’s room.  “Yugi, Ryou’s run into the bathroom.  There’s a bruise on his elbow.

Yami and Yugi knocked on the bathroom when they heard Ryou gargle.  Ryou opened the door and

wrapped his arms around Yugi.

“Yugi, my father got rid of my Millenium Ring!  Bakura’s gone!  He took him away from me!  I miss my Bakura!

 I want him back!”

“Ryou, calm down!”  Yami helped Ryou down the steps.  “What happened?” Yami asked as he placed the

crying boy on the couch.

“I woke up and the Ring was gone.  My father said something about animals burying it!  I can’t miss my first day of

school, but I can’t live without Bakura!”  Ryou sobbed into Yugi’s shoulder.  “I’ll never see him again!  I only want

my father’s love, but he hates me…..and he got rid of Bakura.”  The wailing pierced the air.

Yugi and Yami rubbed his back.  “I’ll never see my love again…I only want Bakura.”

“Talk to us on the way, Ryou.”

“I don’t want to talk.  I want Bakura back.  I miss my yami.”

Yami looked at Ryou’s elbow.  “Did your father touch you?”

Ryou nodded quietly.

“Aibou, this is serious.”

“My father threw me to the ground.  I couldn’t stop crying.  My own father!”

Yami and Yugi sighed.  “Are you going to return home?”

“I don’t know what I’m going to do….I’m lost and I don’t have the one person I care about anymore.”

Ryou’s POV

If I return home, my father would continue to demean me.  Where could I go?

All day in school, I was quiet. I didn’t say a word.  Joey and Tristan saw me and tried to cheer me up.

Joey even ate my lunch for me.  After my day, I couldn’t eat.  I promised myself to try to eat dinner.

I wanted to search for the ring.  That was on my mind all day.  The mindlink with Bakura didn’t even work

and I tried hundreds of times.  When the teacher called my name, I quietly said “Ryou Bakura.”

That name hung on my lips again like a prayer….Bakura.
