Sweet Oblivion

Keith opened the door and saw Malik laying on the bed gasping for every breath.  His body started twitching and his skin had turned pale, almost gray.  “I have to run out for a few things. We’re out of lube and you have two more guests to pleasure tonight.  So, unless you want an uncomfortable screw tonight, Malik and Yugi, I have to go out for more lube.”

Yugi’s body shook. He jumped off the bed and he growled.  Ryou gripped onto Malik’s hand.

“You can’t expect Malik to work tonight!  Just give Malik a day to heal!”

Keith watched as Malik arched his back and whimpered in pain. “It looked like Ryou really did fuck the life out of you, Malik!  He doesn’t look like he’ll survive the day. But, I don’t think Para or Dox would mind.”

“What are you saying?”

“Even if Malik dies, he will still have to earn his keep!  I don’t think they would mind screwing him dead or alive. They’re strange, anyway.”

Yugi clenched his fists tighter. “You creep!  How could you do this to another human being?  I refuse to work for you anymore, Keith!”

Keith slammed the door shut and removed a revolver from his jacket.

“If you’re so worried about Malik, I can end it for him now.”

Ryou gasped and shielded Malik’s body with his own.

Yugi gripped onto Keith. “Don’t shoot! Don’t hurt my friends!”

Keith picked up Yugi and held him against the wall.  “I suggest you get an attitude adjustment by the time I return.  If I come back and find you like this, I will not only shoot Malik, I will execute Ryou.”

Keith carried dropped Yugi and walked over to Ryou. Keith grabbed the back of Ryou’s hair and pulled him off Malik. The white-haired boy whimpered as Keith made him kneel facing away. Keith put the cold steel against the back of Ryou’s neck. Ryou shuddered and whimpered as the metal pressed against his spinal cord.

Yugi let out a sob. “Don’t, Keith!”

“Do we understand each other?”  Keith cocked the weapon, preparing to fire a fatal bullet into Ryou.

“Yes! Yes!”

Keith smirked. “Fine.” He removed the weapon and Ryou buried his face in his hands crying.  “I better come back to three little bitches who like their work!”  Keith slammed the door behind him and locked it.

Malik opened his eyes and looked at Yugi.  His grasp had turned weak and his skin was cold  as  ice.  His voice had faded to nothing but a  quiet whisper. “Yugi, I can’t do it. I have to leave.”

He  struggled to bring in a little air into his fluid-filled lungs.

Yugi grasped Malik’s thin, sickly hand.  “How can we?  We’re locked in here.”

Keith slammed the door to the apartment and the three boys sighed in relief.

“Yugi…..Please….I have…to leave.”

Yugi watched as Malik  let out a whimper of pain.  The sick boy gripped his chest in pain. “I can’t let Malik get taken tonight! We have to go.”

“Where can we go?”

“Back to the warehouse.”

Ryou looked at the lock. Since living with his yami, it had become a necessity that Ryou learn to pick locks with little available.  “Yugi, can I have your neck collar?”

Yugi removed his collar. “How can you pick a lock with that?”

Ryou sighed. “Bakura taught me the hard way how to pick locks, Yugi. I knew this would come in handy some day!”

Yugi put their painkillers in a bag and helped Malik off the couch.  When they opened the door, Ryou ran for more painkillers and Yugi went for clothing.  They couldn’t walk around the streets naked and dirty.

Ryou found a large bottle of prescription painkillers.  “We’ll need these for Malik,” he said handing them to Yugi.  Yugi and Ryou dressed and then helped Malik dress.  Ryou unlocked the door to the apartment as Malik began to wheeze.

“Yugi….can’t….breathe,” Malik said clinging onto Yugi.

“Hold on, Malik. We’ll get you back to the warehouse.”

Ryou and Yugi supported Malik into the warehouse and took him to the office. They laid Malik on the couch and the boy let out a whimper of pain.

Ryou put his hand on Malik’s chest and Yugi took the sick boy’s hand.

Malik opened his eyes weakly.  “Finally…..We’re away from Keith.”

Yugi removed the painkillers from the bag. “Malik, do you need something for the pain?”

Malik looked above Yugi’s head with a tiny smile on his face. His lungs struggled to bring in a small amount of air. “I have no more pain, Yugi.  I have no more sadness.”

Yugi’s lip trembled. “Malik?”

Malik took another weak breath, but the rattling in his chest proved no more air could get into the fluid-filled lungs.

Tears ran down Ryou and Yugi’s face. “Malik, don’t leave us. I can’t go on without you,” Yugi pleaded.

Malik blinked as his eyelids fluttered. “I have no more time.” Malik struggled to lift his hand. His ice-cold hand stroked Yugi’s cheek.

“Malik? Please don’t leave us,” Ryou begged.

“No more time…..I love you, Yugi.”

Yugi cried as he took Malik’s hand and kissed it. “I love you, Malik. I love you so much.”

Malik’s body spasmed and he tried to breathe again. “Mother…..bring ….me…….home.”

Yugi and Ryou watched as Malik’s eyelids slowly fell.  Malik’s body went limp as he let out his last breath.

Yugi let out a loud sob and threw himself on Malik’s chest. “MALIK! NO! DON’T LEAVE US!”

Ryou squint his eyes and buried his face in his hands. “No...Malik. I’m so sorry! This is all my fault!”

Ryou and Yugi cried over Malik’s body.  Yugi looked up at the dead hikari and whispered, “I cannot live my life without you, Malik.  I cannot live without you at all.”

Ryou stroked Malik’s blond hair.  “I never meant to harm you, Malik. I’m so sorry.”

Yugi turned around and grabbed the bag with the painkillers.  He grabbed a bottle of water that had been in their bag from the beginning. There was just enough water for two people.

“What are you doing?” Ryou asked.

Yugi opened the bottle of painkillers and poured a handful of pills into his hand.  “I can’t live without Malik. Malik is gone. I have nothing left.”

Ryou took the bottle of pills and poured another handful into his hand. “I don’t deserve to live for what I’ve done to Malik. And I cannot live without you, Yugi.”

Yugi looked up at Ryou with tears in his eyes.  “I loved Malik, Ryou. I love you, too, Ryou.”

Ryou sniffled “I love you, too, Yugi.”

Ryou put the handful of pills into his mouth and grabbed the bottle of water from Yugi.  He drank the bottle of water and swallowed the pills. Yugi put the pills in his mouth and took the bottle from Ryou.  He drank the water.

Yugi dropped the empty bottle on the floor and heard it roll away.  Yugi brought Ryou into a passionate kiss. They pulled Malik’s body off of the couch and laid it on the floor.  Yugi placed his head on Malik’s chest and felt Ryou cuddle up to his back.  Ryou’s right arm wrapped around Yugi’s waist.

Yugi could feel Ryou’s breathing become more shallow every passing moment.

“Yugi……I…love……you,” Ryou whispered as the last puff of breath hit Yugi’s neck.

Yugi looked up to Malik and stroked Malik’s cheek. “Here I come……my love.” Yugi tilted Malik’s head to kiss him one last time.  Yugi leaned up to kiss his dead lover’s lips.  “One…more….kiss.”

Yugi barely touched Malik’s lips when he collapsed limp on Malik, his last breath escaping him.

Yami knocked on Bakura’s door.  The spiky-haired yami answered and narrowed his eyes.

“What do you want, pharaoh?” Bakura asked, his voice full of disgust.

Marik came behind Bakura. “Don’t talk to my lover that way, Bakura!”

Yami folded his arms. “I want to see Yugi.”

“He isn’t here,” Marik said.

“I’m coming in,” Yami said pushing between the two yamis.

Yami stood in the living room. “Yugi! Yugi! You here?”

Bakura rolled his eyes. “You must be deaf, Yami! He is not here!”

“I’ve looked all over!  I thought my Aibou would be here.”

Marik shrugged. “He hasn’t been over my place.”

Marik shrugged. “The last time I saw him was when Yugi—.” Marik disappeared.

Yami and Bakura stared wide-eyed. “What the hell? What was that all about?” Bakura asked.

Yami shrugged. “That was strange.  You haven’t seen Yugi at all? He’s been missing for days.”

Bakura rolled his eyes. “I couldn’t care less if my hikari was whoring himself on every corner of the city! I don’t really give a flying shit what he’s doing.”

Yami punched Bakura on the arm lightly. “Do you have to be so crass?”

“Do you have to be such a bitch?”

“Do you have to be a pain in my ass?” Yami countered.

“You’d like it if I was a pain in your ass,” Bakura winked.

Yami rolled his eyes. “We have to look for Marik, Bakura!”

Bakura opened his mouth and disappeared.

Yami gasped and felt Yugi drift off. “YUGI! NO!” Yami’s scream faded into nothingness as he disappeared into the Puzzle.
