Robert Stroud (Birdman of Alcatraz)
Alcatraz's most famous prisoner. Wrote two books about birds. Never kept birds while in Alcatraz, but he did in Leavenworth, where he was at before he came to Alcatraz. Popular movie about him came out in 1962 starring Burt Lancaster, and basically every movie since then about Alcatraz has had the birdman character. Other prisoners report that he was very different than the characters portrayed in movies. Buried in the Masonic Cemetery, Metropolis, Il.
