531. CHARLES ROOF (2/12/1809-1/27/1880) was born in Stillwater Township, Sussex County, New Jersey and died in Standing Stone, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. He married MARIA SCHOONOVER LANTZ (12/9/1808-4/16/1876) in Sussex County, New Jersey. MARIA LANTZ was born in Sussex County, New Jersey, and died in Rummerfield, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of PETER LANTZ and JUDITH VAN NESS (1790-1821). She descended from PETER LANTZ (1780-1862), who came from Alsace, Germany, to Hampton Township in 1741. PETER LANTZ was the son of JACOB LANTZ (1741-1827).
CHARLES ROOF migrated from Sussex County to Wysox, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, where he remained three years. CHARLES Roof then moved to Frenchtown, where he lived until 1842 and then purchased a farm in Standing Stone Township of about 154 acres, and in 1857 purchased another 186 acres. CHARLES ROOF was a progressive farmer and a member of the Baptist Church.
The 1850 census lists CHARLES ROOF as a farmer, born in New Jersey. MARIA LANTZ, his wife, 41 and also born in New Jersey. Their children, Sophia, 16, born in Pennsylvania, Jefferson, 14, born in Pennsylvania, HENDERSON ROOF, 10, born in Pennsylvania, and Mary Scott, 8, born in Pennsylvania. CHARLES ROOF and MARIA LANTZ are both buried in the Standing Stone Cemetery next to the Standing Stone Methodist Church in Bradford County, Pennsylavania. One record says they are both buried at Rummerfield and one says CHARLES ROOF is at Rummerfield and MARIA LANTZ at Standing Stone. They had five children:
- 5311. Sophie Elizabeth Roof (10/23/1833-1/4/1899) married Joel Huff (1830-1861) around 1850 and then married Jonathan J. Stevens (4/24/1824-12/3/1901) on January 27, 1857, in Standing Stone, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Sophia Roof and Joel Huff had a son:
- 53111. Charles Huff (1851-1861) who died at the age of seven. They all lived in Standing Stone, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, and both Sophia Roof and Jonathan Stevens are buried in the Stevens family cemetery in Standing Stone. Sophie Roof and Jonathan Stevens had five children:

- 53113. William K. Stevens (b. 7/9/1860) married Julia Keene.
- 53114. Joel G. Stevens (b. 8/7/1863).

- 53116. Mariah E. Stevens (b. 6/14/1872) married James M. Sullivan and then Russell H. Coats.
- 5313. Thomas Jefferson Roof (7/11/1835-7/29/1915) was born in Wysox Township, Bradford County, Pennysylvania and died in Rummerfield, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth H. Roe (5/11/1837-4/27/1898) on March 18, 1860. She was the daughter of David and Sapphire Dennis Roe. Elizabeth was born in Montrose, Pennsylvania, and died in Rummerfield, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Both are buried at Rummerfield, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
Thomas attended the district school until his twenty-first year. Then he worked at home until 1860, when he began for himself on a portion of his father's farm, 186 acres, which was willed to him at his father's death. He later added on three other tracts of land, consisting of 64, 62, and 54 acres, respectively. He served a number of years as school director and town commissioner, and in political affiliation, as his name would indicate, was a Democrat. They had eleven children:

53133. Chauncey D. Roof (5/16/1864-5/4/1935) was born in Bradford County, Pennsylvania and died in Standing Stone, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
- 53134. Mary Lillie Roof (6/10/1866-4/8/1949) was born and died in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. She married Charles H. Huff (1863-1946) who was born in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
- 53135. Minnie M. Roof (9/6/1868-7/8/1870) was born in Bradford County, Pennsylvania and died in Standing Stone, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
- 53136. Samuel David Roof (10/14/1870-2/7/1947) was born in Standing Stone, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, and died in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
